I'd stay far away from Meermin...I know they're SF darlings but the shoe is basically Made in China, and I know that its not always a qualification for poor quality, but, well, in my mind I will always associate Made in China with poor quality. I know the Carminas are significantly more, but to me its worth it to know that the $$ spent is not going to some underpaid factory worker. Its one of the reasons I turned to Alden, I know they treat their workers with respect. I have a feeling the Meermin shoes are basically shipped fully made to Spain, shoelaces are inserted and that makes them "Made in Spain".

Anyway, enough of my rant, my favorite boots on today:

Cold in NY today, but not as cold as the Mets will be tonight!

How many wears do you have on those boots? Look brand new? Really like them though.

Thanks, rydenfan.

What is Mike's SF username? I'd like to PM him first to confirm and discuss before ordering.

Quote: It is, not surprisingly, 'Epaulet'. You could also PM Adele (EpauletFemme) or Matt (leftofthedial), they may be quicker in responding to PMs at times.

Will shell stretch a bit with time? I'm between a 8.5 and a 9 on the Braddock and currently wear a 9D in Barrie. I tried on an 8.5 and had no issues getting my foot in with thick socks, but there was a bit of toe cramp, but not enough to make it uncomfortable. Will shell cordovan stretch a bit after many wears?

Hey, not trying to be a jerk here, but this doesn't make sense. If you are between an 8.5 and a 9 you can't be a 9D in the Barrie. Barrie runs large and that would be socks on a rooster. Is the Barrie lasted item you are wearing a boot? I would think your Barrie size would be 8 or 8.5 this may be throwing you off.

Something I have wondered - I typically think of Suede as a cold weather fabric/material. How did wearing suede shoes become a Summer go to?

Off topic, but I had a pair of squeaky AE's and their customer service had no problem replacing them.  Just mention this in an online review and they will surely contact you about it.  Might run into trouble if they no longer build the shoe, but it's worth a shot.

Yeah, I returned the Amoks without any issues.

Not sure how I feel about NYR's statement about Meermin - what makes you have the hunch that it's Made in China?

It's for sure made in china

And given that my classic collection monks have held up just fine to heavy use and abuse from going out, maybe 40 wears and everything is fine. Some aesthetic issues like sole split but nothing major

Just because something made in China doesn't mean it's necessarily of poor quality. They will manufacture with the materials and methods they decide upon, and it may be good or it may be ****.

However, companies manufacture in China when production cost is one of their primary concerns, and it all depends on whether or not that same mentality affects the production quality or not.

Is the modified last going to be very wide for someone who has narrow feet?

I wear orthotics, and was wondering if my legs will be swimming in the modified last?

Opinions appreciated.
