LoL. I don't know the best system, but trying to call a line that gets so overloaded that gives a dead tone for hours, seems slightly not ideal. Don't get me wrong, I really like TheShoeMart, and they are probably the best setup to do the Seconds, but I feel they could do it more efficiently. Maybe online database and purchases? Frankly, AE has recently revamped their Seconds process and created a site and it works terrifically. Something could be learned from that. Only thing it lacks is the ability to buy online.

Yeah, it's not just instant.  I signed up a while back and never got anything.  Oh well, better for my wallet.

I tried calling Shoemart about 15 times today inquiring about the 2nds. Finally gave up in frustration. It's such a ridiculous and antiquated system, but I guess it's somehow fitting when dealing with Aldens. smile.gif

Sorry Blaster, yeah, it can be rather frustrating. I think Steve has it right. Plan on not getting anything and be pleasantly surprised if you do manage to pick something up! :-)

Antiquated is an understatement. I've witnessed their process....laughable.

A suede shoe that would go weLL with more formal business casual - more dressy coats and coat and tie: snuff suede medallion captoe balmoral. The ShoeMart sells that too. You may not want to have snuff suede Indys, snuff suede moc toe shoe (shoe you are looking at) and snuff suede medallion captor balmoral. But if you have a need for a more formal shoe and want it in snuff auede, I would look at that.

I am not a fan of the balmoral style, actually too formal for me. I prefer the blucher style shoe, see below..

This is what I have my eye on now...

They have the double waterlock lock leather sole, black trim along the edges and black laces which gives the shoe a rugged look. They can be worn with business casual(chinos and khakis) and casual(jeans) in my opinion. I'll reserve the correct shoes for suits smile.gif

Not sure what you are referring to as black trim. But these have antique edge trim, not black.

I am thinking buying the indy boots, brown or natural CLX. I don´t have any experience with chromexcel, what sort of look and crease should I expect of this type of leather after some use?

I am asking because I like clean looking shoes,  I am not sure is CLX is best for that, or maybe it is with proper care

I am interested in purchasing these and I am confused on what size I should get.. I wear 11.5D or 11E on Trubalance, and 11.5D on barrie. I can fit into an 11D in barrie and they will conform but the ball of my foot will cover the whole welt. Never tried the Trubalance in 11D. I had thought these where on the Aberdeen last, but i have never ventured into other Alden lasts. I have used Google and the search function but if possible i would like to get a straight answer.

Also thinking about these and wondering sizing as well, I had heard these are the M58 last but again not sure.

CXL is a very durable leather that is great for rugged use (in my experience).  If you like "clean" boots, then CXL is not for you.  It scuffs really easily, but brushes out with no problems.  Often I can rub my finger over a pronounced scuff and it will pretty much disappear.  IMO, CXL produces the best patina aside from shell.  In my experience, CXL darkens with use and oiling.  Some people get upset when this happens - it's just the way the leather wears and it should be embraced.  Also, high wear areas that receive a lot of bings tend to darken significantly more than other areas - again, just the way the leather wears.

Finally, some people don't care for the way the leather wrinkles.  Some boots wrinkle worse than others and there's no way to determine how the boot will break in before wearing it.  Just be aware that the leather may not wrinkle symmetrically.  I've had good luck in this department, but others have not.  It's sorta the luck of the draw.  It's an all around great leather though.  I highly recommend it, especially for boots.
