It depends on the particular shoes. I have a pair or RL cordovans that is slightly darker (more brown) than my Ravello Aldens. They are nothing like any shade of Cigar though. Another pair of Darltons were a much more chocolate brown color; completely different than Ravello.

on the flip side, for the life of me I couldnt figure out what the hell anyone was talking about when all these internet-born terms like PTB LWS LWB etc were first being used.

Whiskey does have a place in this collection

EDIT - is it just lighting or do the whiskeys on the end of that photo look darker than these

I dunno, sometimes its hard to trust lighting, etc the (restored) whiskey's in that photo (in the middle) look like #6 or something to me. and over time, I would think you could darken them up with polishes

Looks like my line up, except I did the PTB and LWB in cigar and the LWBoot in Ravello. You have excellent discernment.

I'm kind of curious about how the different shades of cordovan change over time. Does anyone have any new vs. aged photos of their shoes? Or can describe how #8, Cigar, Ravello, and Whiskey evolve? I know there are variables like how much/how often/what color polish is used, but there must be some typical changes regardless.

has anyone ever made a whiskey cordovan PTB in one of the narrower lasts? Like the Plaza?

My whiskey and ravello cordos always darken with age. I don't really use polish- buff and renovateur every so often.

Plenty of pics on this thread and the "Shoes that look better with age" thread on Sufu. From what I've noticed, the darker colors fade over time while the light colors turn to a darker shade. I also noticed that the current crop of Cordovan from Horween has darkened quite a bit across the board. #8 is more black, Cigar is darker, Ravello is closer to Cigar and Whiskey is closer to Ravello.
