Placed the order for these from Frans Boone on Tuesday and received them two days later. No customs charges--the box was marked as U.S. goods. No complaints here, only praise.

If you really want to delve further, Legalism, Taoism, Buddhism, Civil Service Examination System, paper money, the check/certificates of deposit, standardized system of measurements, the flame thrower, the compass, iron technology, the ship's rudder, stirrups, hot air balloons, decimal numbers. etc... I could go on with this, all have come from China.

Is the Trubalance in "D" width a naturally wide width?


I have 12.5 length, pronated feet and wear a 13E in Allen Edmonds Strands/Park Ave last. Would a 12D Trubalance fit me?

I'm going to guess a 13D would suit you. The AE Strand is on the 5-65 last which I need a 7E on. i've tried a 7.5D on the trubalance before, fit comfortably width wise but just a little long.

The plaza lasted Indy makes the boot very sleek, which I guess some people see as the opposite of the Indy aesthetic. To me they are kind of rugged but handsome boots to be worn with denim or chinos (I won't call them "work boots" because dudes aren't constructing buildings or in a factory in their $750 cordovan Indy boots). IMO the ravello Indy just looks like a sleek NST boot without the split toe stitch (which is a great boot, just kind of odd for an Indy).. Indy boots (whatever the leather) look more appealing to me in the Trubalance last (I even think the Barrie versions look a bit too narrow sometimes). The best Indy I have seen is the cigar version on commando soles, followed by the 404/403/natty versions and then the whiskey versions. I don't recall ever seeing a ravello Indy on Trublanace (same thing with a whiskey wingtip boot, I don't think it has ever been made).

The tanker boot is a happy medium (rugged but somewhat sleeker than an Indy due to the Barrie last and split toe stitching)

Nor am I trying to offend anyone who may be Chinese or be of Chinese heritage around here. I work with Chinese people in my field, and they are great, genuine, hard working folk. Strictly from an observation standpoint, I think the original poster's intent was to say that right now the Chinese seem to be extremely heavy on the consumption side of things rather than on the contributing side of things. In all honesty, almost the entire list of inventions from that Wikipedia list date back to the late middle ages or earlier. The list of modern inventions is only a handful and they are mostly science lab stuff that may mean something to you if you work in the appropriate field or have had a specific reason for it to apply to you. Obviously Chinese culture is quite ancient and has contributed to the world's knowledge in unimaginable ways, but in our lifetimes (no matter how old you are), we have really only seen a black hole effect going on.

Woke up to an email from Oki, plaza captoe #8s have been confirmed and are four months out . Today shall be a good day. As to the Indy discussion, I agree a plaza doesn't really look like a true Indy. The plaza is my favorite of all the Alden lasts but the Indy was meant to be an unapologetic, beefy , hulk.
