Observation and opinion:to me it seems like cigar can be very close to #8 shell.
Other thoughts?

Do you all ever worry about wearing out the stitching from brushing too much / too vigorously? Is this a concern? Brushing around stitching seems like it could be difficult...

When shoes are recrafted, do they restitch areas that seem to be wearing out? Can they upon request?

The "new cigar", yes. The old cigar of yesteryear definitely had more browns and olives to it. Look back in this thread and you'll see some gorgeous cigar shell from 2012 and before.

Just depends on the batch. Darker cigar yes but lighter brown with olive undertone cigar, no

I am thinking they may be referring to Color #2.

Your #4s are not as red as some that you see posted on here......Dorothy had "ruby" slippers

The most recent color 8 batches (last couple of years) have typically been more eggplant, purplish-reddish than old school color 8 which tended to be a darker burgundy that looks a little similar to this recent batch of very dark cigar.  Old color 8 does look a little similar to new, very dark cigar.

Older color 8...

Newer color 8... (the PTB above is new and eggplant-like)

I don't think my more recent color 8 acquisitions look all that similar to cigar, even this latest batch of cigar.

Not sure which captoe you are referring to... The cigar shell's are from Alden D.C. And the alpine grain is from end clothing.com.

Interesting. All of my new color 8 is insanely dark, almost black.

I noted the same from my recent leffot lwb. Even the one crease that has formed so far is dark.

My JCrew captoe boot is also nearly black...I really want a burgundy shell boot that looks burgundy....not sure if #8 is the answer or what is. I def want some ruby tones in it, I am hoping for an NST boot in a shell that is brighter burgundy at some point.

I would be stoked if my #8 looked like RTP's!

My Cigar is not that dark, here's a comparison pic Between Color 8 and Cigar ,both from recent batches.
