PSA:  Alden DC will be receiving back from me a pair of cap toe bluchers in cigar cordovan in size 8D.  The shoes are really beautiful, if on the dark side of the cigar cordovan spectrum, but they don't fit, so they are back on the market.  Most likely Alden DC has a list at least elbow-long of potential acquirers, but in case it doesn't, I wanted to let our august community know of this availability.

These shoes are on the Aberdeen last, Alden's most narrow last, in which I typically take a 7.5E.  I have found that in the barrie-lasted shoes and boots, in which I typically take 7E, a 7.5D -- going one width more narrow and one-half size longer than normal -- will almost always work as well for me as 7E.  I was hoping that in these Aberdeen-lasted bluchers a similar trading of width for length would work as well as doing the same on barrie.

Not so, at least not today, not in these shoes, and not for me.  In these shoes, the additional length was just too damn long.  Rather than wear someone else's shoes, I am returning them for a real 8D to enjoy.

I passed on the 10D...I'd assume several sizes are probably still available on this one.

Oh yes, I would have taken them if I didn't have another cigar blucher on the way (and still after the cap toe boot). I got on the list not that long ago, and I think I was first or second for my common size. The demand for an Aberdeen cap toe shoe just isn't the same as a longwing, PTB or boot.

2) which brings to the second question . She was rather disappointed that the shells were made of a horse. She doesn't want them in the house. I reassured her that it was a byproduct of equine food processing , but I don't think she is buying it nod[1].gif

Keep them or just don't tell her they are shells anymore? I don't think her eye is keen enough to spot the difference, when red soles are all that matter to her

Thanks in advance

My closet, the guest room closet, and a shelf in the garage are overflowing with shoe boxes from Tricker's, Alden, and Rancourt. My wife cares much more about the space I am taking up than the expense so these days she tries to make me do a 1-in-1-out policy for new shoes. It probably doesn't help that I also have an ever rotating stack of running shoes that I am going through in the garage and laundry room as well. On that note, somebody buy the shoes in my signature so I can justify more purchases! crackup[1].gif

If you are concerned about her noticing too many shoe boxes coming to the door lately, you can always switch to watches. They are probably much easier to sneak into the house than shoes and boots! We'll see if my wife notices when my new Blumo arrives today. mwink[1].gif

They also had some Medallion tip shoes in Ravello in a few sizes.  I saw a few pairs of Ravello LWB, plus Cigar LHS.  If any of that appeals to you, give Kathy or Joe a call they are both great to work with and I highly recommend  them for their very wise knowledge of Alden products and how to make sure you are fitted correctly.

See Ya,

Steve

Just got off the phone with them, and it seemed like I wasn't the first one to call about the Cigar Medallion boot... They only had E widths and apparently they're on the Aberdeen last. Since I'm 9D on Barrie and 9.5D on Plaza, I assume 9.5E on Aberdeen will be too wide? I'm still tempted... On the other hand, now that I posted this the 9.5E will probably be gone in five minutes.

Not Alden sourced but related content - got my snuff suede belt from Epaulet.  Bad picture but near perfect match with my snuff Dovers.
