Plaza?
So, I bought a pair of the AF53s from AoC and unfortunately they are going back. But the boot came with a speedhook that was half out, and a portion of the quarters, right on the eyelets, that was definitely made out of the non-shell leather that surrounds the shell. Between those two things, I just realized I'll be unhappy with the boots at the price, and have to send them back. Adam there was quite helpful, and definitely offered to take them back. The pic shows the wrinking and it's very thin to the touch and feels like the laces would slowly pull right through the leather.

Unfortunately, it'll be about 9 months until they have a restock in my size, which is a shame and means no #8 shell boots for this winter. I was wondering if anyone happens to know of any other places, either in the US or over seas, selling a plain toe #8 shell boot on the commando sole. I know J Gilbert has the plaza, but I just don't think that's for me. I know *somewhere* someone sold it on the barrie last, because someone on SF is selling a 2nds quality pair, but I can't figure out what store carried that. Any leads?

I have two Barrie boots J Crew cap toe #8 and the Union Made NST Alpine Grain both are 12D and fit great everywhere but right where the tongue meets the vamp - it is tight there - not tight enough to make me unhappy but enough so to know it is not the perfect fit.

Is there a last that would be better suited to my foot? It would seem a 12.5E might be perfect  but that is an unlikely scene...my guess is a 12E is not going to give more top to bottom room in that area.

Carmina Rain: uk 5.5 - length and width are good, the instep is a little high for my foot
Carmina Rain: uk 6 - length is long but width is much more comfortable.  Can't wear an oxford in this size, but a derby is doable due to the vamp/lacing properties of a derby
Carmina simpson: uk 6 - length is a bit long, width is good, and the instep is good
Meermin hiro - uk6 - length and width are good
AE Neumok (65 last) - size US 7 - length is a bit long but width is ok

In all the shoes above were I mention that the length is a bit long, there is about two thumb widths from the end of my toe to the end of the toe box.  My toes aren't very long and I feel like I've got a wide foot with a high arch lol

Any help?  I was thinking either a US 6.5 or US 7 for a plaza lasted boot.

Anyone else? Really wanting a plaza last after the above pics!!!

I am sorry you got a bad pair of boots.

The 4060 HC may be your closest readily available choice. Its the cap toe version of this boot on Grant.

It is fairly common, as I am sure you know.

Best of luck.

What a bummer--I would be crestfallen.

It's a shame that Alden (apparently) doesn't prioritize making it right, but instead puts you at the back of the line.

PSA-I was at Alden DC today and saw a few interesting make ups.  They have a few pairs of Cigar boots with Medallion tip that were supposed to go overseas but did not. They also had some Medallion tip shoes in Ravello in a few sizes.  I saw a few pairs of Ravello LWB, plus Cigar LHS.  If any of that appeals to you, give Kathy or Joe a call they are both great to work with and I highly recommend  them for their very wise knowledge of Alden products and how to make sure you are fitted correctly.

See Ya,

Steve
