Similar boot I like is offered on sale from Alfred Sargent at about $150 less than a similar Alden boot...Any help to quality of Alfred Sargent compared to Alden? I have several Alden's just do not know much about AS
I've wondered the same...

2) I've heard varying opinions about the wearability of shell in rain (with most saying they avoid it), any rule of thumb re the topic?
Personally, I would rather where my shell in the rain than my calf. The water marks seem to dry up and clear away much more quickly than on calf. I think the resiliency and durability of shell is a major part of its appeal.
I don't know where you are geographically or what type of winters you will likely encounter, but if you are somewhere that you are going to see any significant snow and/or ice, I think the commando sole is much better than the Dainite sole. I know some folks love the Dainite but I have just never found it to be a very stable or grippy sole.
If I were looking for a "dressy" Alden boot for the winter it would probably be the shell color #8 wingtip boot with black as a second choice.[/quote]
Thanks for the reply. I'm probably going to give both the Dainite & commando sole a shot. I live in the mid-Atlantic, we get a lot of rain a well. Snow is variable but I want a dress boot I can wear in inclement weather. I don't think I've seen an Alden shell WT at any of the resellers (at least one with a Dainite/commando sole).

I still prefer my Aldens.
So are you aware of an incoming restock? The website says the boots are not in stock.
I've been going back and forth about them for the longest time. They were in the last irregulars email from end of June, and I emailed ShoeMart yesterday if it was still available. Heard back today they were so I decided to pull the trigger. Hope the issue with them isn't too noticeable.
agree...I am just starting to appreciate the leather suede combo but that one does not hit home for me...however I do love this one below though I am a two tone shoe junkie - I am sure there are many that would consider it a crime on humanity.
