I'd still consider my CXL dark brown under most lighting, but it has lightened some in the vamp/toe area with wear as oils are worked in and out (which I like even more).

Does anyone have pics of chamois and/or reverse chamois with some years of serious wear? Don't recall seeing anything here. Winn Perry's blog has a pic of some well worn boots but that's all I've seen. If pics are too much trouble, any comments on how they hold up over some (more than 1) years of rough wear? Thanks.

My chamois have only 1 year of wear. Not much over the summer, but a lot in the winter.

Most will probably agree thou that they darken.

*Apologies for the vague answer but it really depends how much you wear them, what you wear them to do, what products you put on them....etc.

I don't believe that they'll darken that much. They're made to have some kind of color variation, like shell does. I don't know about brown turning black - sounds atypical to me.

Like these guys ^ said, it depends on what you use. I treat mine like shell, wipe and brush for the most part. Any product you put on will darken them. cheers.gif

Navy CXL - brushed only. A little lightening at the creases.

I got these chamois gunboats on November of 2011.  They get heavy rotation in the cold, rain & snow and have always kept my feet totally dry (with style, of course).  I sno-sealed them upon purchase, hence the dark color.  (Tobacco is otherwise so beautiful that I am tempted to get another pair to wear 'naked.').  They have been put through a lot, and despite the slash (someone opened a sharp-edged door into them) they have held up well and have a lot of life left in them.  Highly recommend.

...or maybe a pair of these...  If they keep your feet dry, maybe my sno-seal was overkill.  Very nice!

Jackpot! Thanks. I am not sure I'd use sno seal but they look good (too bad about the gash though).

Next time, I would hold off on the treatment.  It's unfortunate, but I managed to ignore the gash soon enough.  They are, after all, *just* shoes that get a lot of abuse and love.
