Question:

After viewing a picture of Mac's Color 8 Unlined LHS circa 1986, I was wondering if it is possible to expedite the patina process on my Alden color 8's. When I go to the office, my shoes are outdoors 5-10 minutes per day and very rarely are they exposed to direct sunlight. At this rate, I have a feeling its going to take an extraordinary amount of time for my shoes to mature.

Has anyone tried to leave their shoes in a window sill from time to time in order to give them some light exposure?

Is patina only a function of sunlight, or is aging a component as well?

^ I personally wouldn't rush patina, because then it isn't really patina. I know there is a member who was experimenting with a pair of AE shells by leaving them in direct sunlight. I can't remember the member, but browsing the past 2 or so weeks of the AE thread should find it as we were recently discussing it and he posted an update.

Rest up, Mike. @mdubs

There will be lots of time to shine up your backlog when you are better.

Enjoying the quintessential preppy shoe today, courtesy of Leffot.

That would be my Leeds. Really is more an experiment in changing the color rather than true patina. Nothing trumps actual time and wearing to create a beautiful shoe.

Yes, this is true and I agree. I didn't feel like explaining all that, haha. I figured that would be clear if and when he found the discussion.

Thanks for posting these. Now I don't feel bad about sending my RL Snuff Sandersons back as these will be the replacements. The eyelets just do wonders.
