B. Nelson is great (although like was mentioned, the commando is not as low-profile). Another option is getting the OEM Alden commando sole from Moulded Shoe. It's not cheap ($240) but it's the real deal, if that's what you want. I decided to give it a try on a pair of suede cap toes, and Moulded did a fantastic job.

I had a pair of Gianni's, but sold them because I never wore them. Beautiful boot, I just prefer the more rugged design of the Indy boot.

Here are a few pics and a few comparisons against the Alden Plaza "Indy" Boot.

Warning: Gianni vs Indy (Click to show)

Warning: Gianni Boot Only :-O (Click to show)

Thanks @mdubs. I think Plaza lasted Indy is the dress boot for me. Just wish there were more makeups in Ravello and whiskey.

Someone mentioned that TSM did a cigar NST on Barrie a few years back. That's practically my grail.

Also have Ravello WT boot on Barrie/commando coming and hoping I can find the Ravello day trippers.

Thank you rtp. I'm tempted by the snuff as well. The suede feels a bit lighter than the shells.

S2 - any chance you can post a picture? I'm curious as to whether they simply stitch the commando to the bottom of the sole or do they integrate the front part into the sole (hard to explain but easy to see, especially on antique edging). Thanks.

Yes. Leffot's Cooney boot in snuff suede is the model I have.

Some of the curious offerings of LS have been mentioned on here before. In that light, please see LS's last 3 "new arrivals." biggrin.gif

Agreed. And really, I wouldn't say actual Alden commando sole itself is "integrated" into the outsole -- the thin commando sole is the same as the one used by Moulded here, Alden just uses a crepe or some other rubber insert at the toe above the commando sole.
