Maiden voyage today, out of doors break-in for upcoming weekend soiree, Alden short wing bals for BB, color 8. So happy with these--

Painted dark...

new, so not worried as of yet about flaking finish. Character?

Noticed today that these were pretty dry. Fresh off some love...

@rydenfan

Hows the fit coming along now that they are broken in?

Great. They were a bit snug at the instep originally but have relaxed just enough. Interestingly they also seem to stay laced better now that the footbed and sole have flexed more. I used to get irritated having to constantly re-tie them but that has subsided.

I don't know why but I thought yours had the antique edge trim like mine. Sadly mine get little use....I am awaiting the ravello wingtips on the next tsm run and then I may part with them.

I would prefer them to. I passed on a Ravello wingtip boot this week because it was dark edge trim. I prefer the antique and at this price point I figured I should wait and get exactly what I want

Trubalance doesn't get a lot of love in this thread, but these are comfortable as hell and plenty sleek enough for work boots IMHO.

Leffot did the following - Truebalance, Commando, Speedhooks
  Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I am a big CXL fan, and as you can see, these get used...

Nice.  I wouldn't object to commando on mine.

Is there anyway to tell when a particular shoe was made/manufactured?

SA insisted I do 8.5E, but I'm thinking I should stick with 8E. He said Grant is shorter than Barrie.

Thoughts?

I've never tried on Grant or Hampton last. These will be too long, I think.

My current Alden rotation includes the following:

8.5D Grant boot (4065)
8.5D JCrew PCT boot
8.5D Hampton shoe (9016)
8D Barrie shoe (975)

The 8.5D Grant is my most snug fitting Alden (at the ball).
For you, an 8E might be a good start ... but don't rule out an 8.5D.

As an aside, I once owned an 8D Trubalance boot (CXL Indy) ... but a combination of the last and stretch of CXL resulted in very unsightly pinky-toe bulging.

Leffot told me to order the same size in Grant as in Barrie. Big mistake. I should have ordered the same width, but a half size larger. YMMV.

Why not get a wider width? Are you ok with a longer shoe?
