The darkening is also apparent on the inside of the shoe, which rules out some possibilities.

Check out the official shoe care thread. Someone was just talking about the same thing. I don't have the exact link, but they contacted Alden (I think, might have been a retailer who carries Alden) and they were told that it might be oil seeping into the upper, from the water lock sole. Their solution was to "wait it out".

I don't really wear them enough for it to really concern me, and before I kind of ignored the issue, but after seeing your post and the post regarding the navy suede shoes, I'm confident I am having the same problem. FWIW I have owned other suede Aldens on oiled soles that have not had this issue (such as my J Crew tan suede PTBs, which are among my oldest pairs), but my snuff suede chukkas are showing this exact dark "staining" rising upward from the sole.

I'm just going to live with it for now, but if it bothers you enough I would potentially raise it with Alden or your retailer.

EDIT - I'll post pics this weekend.

Yeah it bothers me, but it's somehow comforting to know that other people are experiencing the same. I think I'll just wait it out. Seems like most Alden retailers are extremely resistant to the idea of sending shoes back to Alden. If you come up with a solution, please share your insights.

I did not ask, Im assuming darker trim cause its a commando sole. I would prefer antique though.

CP has some weird sizing. Its hard to recommend. I wear an 8 - 8.5D on in Barrie and usually go with a 41 on the Achilles but honestly I think I may be able to fit a 40. I just have never attempted to order them and see what they look like or feel like on in size 40.

I myself want to order a pair of grey trainers but have not done so yet so Im not sure on those.

Love the look, but are the shoes gapping as much around your ankles as they appear?

They are classics RK!

Thank you RTP

A quality suede shampoo will work to emulsify the oil and lift it from the suede without softening the color. Get some on the leather sole, wash the entire ring and bottom, probably treat the inner shoe also - follow the instructions on the bottle.

Cheap route would be to use some type of dawn dish soap (no odor or color). When it is dry you will really need to treat the suede with a moisturizer - brush it - and use nano tech to finish.  Then always tree that pair after every use.

I think it only appears that way bc I positioned my feet/ankles in an awkward spot, toes pointing straight up, stretching my Achilles. I guess it's not the most flattering pose. These shoes are a smudge big, but not poorly sized.

I was only on the list for about 3 months so if others were recently added hold out hope. They may still call.

This is definitely one of my most wanted boots, so Im happy to have it comming. 6-8 month lead time though which is crazy.

It puts a serious damper on the Viberg decision Monday. hmmm.

Exact same here. Got the Ravello WTs on order. So excited! Decided to hold off on Viberg as a result.

that must be from the oiled sole. I have seen many of those in Tassels.

Ha, I have made the same decision due to recent purchases as well. Although Brandy sounded interesting...

That really sucks. You need to watch what the waterlock soles come in contact with. I had part of one waterlock sole rest against a pair of white golf shoes in my closet and it created a large purple discoloration. Amazingly enough, it disappeared with time. Perhaps that will be the case with your pair, but I doubt it. I'd expect it to act like a couple pairs of reverse chamois pairs I have. That leather has so much oil in it that the entire lining is saturated with grease. It just keeps leaching out.

Very nice.
Angelus #605 gives a little less shine. Probably more appropriate for lighter color shell.
