Does anyone know the edge trim color on the Alden NYC Ravello boot? I can't remember all the details on their makeup

The acrylic certainly gives the shoes a nice shine, but whenever I see it, even on new pairs of Alden shell, I always think of corrected grain, cavalry calf, etc. You know, the cheap leather with the plasticized-like coating.

I could see brown, green, blue, or grey.

The inside of my black shell has a blue-green look.

If $299 AE shell was still around I would be willing to give it a shot on a pair of Black Dundees. I actually own just over 15 pairs of shoes now and none of them are black haha. When the time comes it will probably just be an inexpensive calf model for when required.

I hear you, I only have one pair of shell Alden so far (whiskey LHS) and the finish threw me off at first but I think it's growing on me. These Leeds have become my experiment shoes so they may soon also receive a lightened edge trim too.

Can anyone provide some insight into what is causing this odd darkening on my snuff suede dovers? Did I receive a defective pair? I've worn these three times.

That looks really weird. Almost looks wet? Are you walking through puddles on your way to work, or are your feet sweating so much that it's saturating the suede?

I've never worn the shoes anywhere near water. I've always worn socks with the shoes as well (although I did wear them on a particularly warm day in Palm Springs). If it is sweat, how would I go about fixing it? The shoes have been given plenty of time to "dry out", but the discoloration doesn't seem to be getting better. The darkening is also apparent on the inside of the shoe, which rules out some possibilities.

I talked to Alden NY today and I was able to order the Ravello WT any size I wanted so I went with my safe 8D even though I was tempted to go 8.5C. Every boot fits me different though so I figured rather be safe than sorry.

I was only on the list for about 3 months so if others were recently added hold out hope. They may still call.

This is definitely one of my most wanted boots, so Im happy to have it comming. 6-8 month lead time though which is crazy.

It puts a serious damper on the Viberg decision Monday. hmmm.

Did you happen to ask if it is antique or dark edge trim?

That looks remarkably similar to this guy's issue with suede and oily sole: http://www.styleforum.net/t/228153/the-official-shoe-care-thread-tutorials-photos-etc/9585#post_7189685

How do you size the cp in comparison to Alden. I am considering the achillis or ep trainer.

Also 6 to 8 months is not really that bad ask the guys on the epaulet ravello boot list.

Well, that's disappointing. Is it a QC issue? I don't feel like the retailer is going to be much help at this point. Do I contact Alden? Or do I sit tight and hope that it works itself out?

I'd heard of loose grain issues with Alden CXL, so I thought I was playing it safe by going for the dovers instead. :brick:

I have the same exact issue on a pair of snuff suede chukkas I purchased a year ago. I don't really wear them enough for it to really concern me, and before I kind of ignored the issue, but after seeing your post and the post regarding the navy suede shoes, I'm confident I am having the same problem. FWIW I have owned other suede Aldens on oiled soles that have not had this issue (such as my J Crew tan suede PTBs, which are among my oldest pairs), but my snuff suede chukkas are showing this exact dark "staining" rising upward from the sole.

I'm just going to live with it for now, but if it bothers you enough I would potentially raise it with Alden or your retailer.

EDIT - I'll post pics this weekend.
