Perhaps Van? But I don't see it on boots very often (if at all). I quite like the Grant last, FWIW.

Plus 1 although I do like the looks of my plaza last nst (and those who say that model is too casual for suits are sadly mistaken) and the plaza last for plain toe bluchers.

Plaza is Alden's best last for boots IMO. But Plaza is also decent for shoes.

Plobably the tremont last. I cannot think of a shoe on the tremont last, however, that is not a wingtip. So if you want that last, you better like wingtips. And the stock model wingtips made on this last are shortwing balmorals, so they are more dressy looking than wingtio bkuchers. All of the other less roomy lasts - grant, hampton, Plaza - I don't think anyone would describe as clunky.

Cordovan Shoes for Men Play Even Harder to Get

A global shortage of the luxurious leather has created waitlists and frustration, but there's hope on the horizon

http://online.wsj.com/articles/cordovan-shoes-for-men-play-even-harder-to-get-1400881239

"Mr. Horween reported that the hide supply began to return to pre-drought levels at the end of the last year, which means cordovan supplies for shoemakers may soon be back to normal. His advice to covetous shoppers: Sit tight. More is coming soon. That doesn't quite mean that cordovan shoes will be plentiful, however. "It's still not as much as the market wants," said Mr. Horween."

Limited PSA:  Might be a glitch but the Needsupply Gamble's Hill Indy Boot in Natural CXL on Barrie last is now showing up at $445 rather than $545.  This is killing me bc my size is not available.  (I ordered it when it came out, then had to cancel but would absolutely grab them now for this price.)  Hope somebody can take advantage of this.

My size was sold out but now it has reappeared. Maybe there were quality issues?

Do you feel this could be worn interchangeably (outfit-wise) with a natty CXL derby?

They seem pretty tough, too; could wear them to hell and patina quickly.

Tremont is a reasonable answer.

FWIW, From Alden official printed literature on last fitting characteristics (words directly from literature):

Tremont v. Barrie
A bit more toe room in the Tremont, but Barrie is a little rounder in toe fitting.

Grant v.Barrie
Not much difference between Barrie and Grant. Barrie slightly larger.

Anyone notice that LSBH closed suddenly with no warning last week? I am kind of bummed, they were my closest Alden retailer. :-(

They posted it on Instagram.

They just remodeled, so I hope things are not bad for them in general.

I'm guessing the rent on the BH location was not cheap; I don't see why they won't do a store in SF. Tom seemed to hint that an SF store is a no brainer.

I am sure things are fine for them; along with Leffot, I consider them a top Alden customer. Look at their custom makeups over the years---all unique.

Lack of new stock and store closing doesn't look good. Hope they succeed, though when I was calling around several months ago looking for a couple of specific Alden models, whoever answered their primary phone line was pretty nasty...in fact, the only poor customer service response I received from any of the Alden dealers I called,

When I went there after remodel / Bryan left there was almost nothing in stock. I wanted to try on a few St. Crispins models before trunk show and only one pair was remotely close to my size. Same deal with EGs too. They do seem to get a good amount of stuff for the Hawaii stores

Also pretty sure high end shoes don't really sell in LA, Epaulet had difficulty selling anything outside of sneakers per Mike so they didn't really stock any shoes neither

Anyone have a price on those Cigar PTBs?

(and team PSAs for someone clearly not trying to profit and instead provide a good thing for an Alden fan... much preferred to the spamming of "looks good" by one or more notables here which I'm sure is also against the rules...)
