On casual fridays (which are chinos or wool pants), I will wear some of my commando boots/shoes.

Looks like dovers + leather soles is the better option for M-TH then. Too bad that option is not readily available.

Unlined dovers with leather (flex welt) have been sold in the past and will be sold again. I own some in black cordovan...

FWIW, here are my M-Thurs shoes:

Brooks Brothers Color 8 Wingtip Bals
Black Cordovan Punch Captoe Bals
Cigar Straight Tip Captoe Bals
Color 8 Full Strap Loafers
Black Cordovan Dovers
990
Ralph Lauren Marlow Wingtips
Ravello Tassel Loafers

The Color 8 PTBs, Marlow Wingtips and Ravello Tassels can play double duty and go more casual.

I'm considering eventually adding a something like the 9751 to this rotation.

If you aren't wearing ties all the time, I don't see an issue. Sounds more like business casual to me. Which is how I dress M-F. I wear my tanker boots on Commando year round to work.

Not many Alden models (at least not that us members crave) are appropriate for true conversative business dress.

I must resist. Mind you I am usually unable to resist after a few cocktails, which will happen tonight....

There are various models on this link - in color 8 and black shell - that are appropriate for business dress:

Unfortunately, this is how many of my purchases have been made!

I have the "stoneman" chukkas and think they look great.....haven't worn them yet as I am hoping to sell my standard #8 chukkas first.

Drunk shoe shopping sounds really dangerous.

Note to self: Hide iPad while drinking.

Yeah, I am returning them. But I hate returning shoes and I'm paying $18 for TSM to ship them to me and ship them back and ultimately just sell them to some other chap. So I'm peeved about it.

That dover on commando is super tempting. I think I need to log off the internet asap

Thank you all so much! I'm really happy with the fit on these. When you have flat feet, a nice supportive boot with no aching at the end of the day is a God-send.

Not to sound too callous or anything, but . . . generally speaking, when it comes to seconds, you pays your money and you takes your chances.  Even AE is now charging a $10 restocking fee for returned seconds.

It's pretty similar to the MTO AE's I had made recently, but they were Bals:

Congrats! I really like these. If my casual collection wasn't filled I would add these. Love captoes and love pebble grain.

Believe me - I was aware of the risks and understand it all. But I feel like I was shipped one shoe in seconds condition and one shoe in third or fourths condition. Or whatever condition a shoe would be in after looking like it went through a washing machine and then a dryer.
