Wonderful casual shoe.  Are they from TSM?  I think they are the only ones that have the darker antique edge and welt, as opposed to the light (off-white) welt.  I get the impression most like the really light colored welt.  I prefer yours. Enjoy often and in great health my friend!

What is TSM? I really like the darker welt as well.

FWIW I am 8.5D Barrie and the 8.5E Aberdeen I tried fit perfectly.

^ FWIW, I'm a 9.5D Barrie and 10D Aberdeen.  I owned 9.5E Aberdeen (monk) and it always felt a bit wide, esp in the heel, so I sold it.

Alden boots have a higher heel toe drop than I'm used to. I'm pretty tall and usually run and walk onto my midfoot instead of heel-striking.  The boots are changing my gait and making me walk onto my heels.  As a result, I'm getting all sorts of knee pains.  Are there any cheap ways of modifying the heel or the outsole to decrease this drop?

Looks great .
I kind of love the look of the round toe .

I jus realise sizing seems to be a bit inconsistent between
The normal alden shoes and j crew make ups ?

Both were us 8
One in trubalance
The natural chromexcel in the modified last from the shoe mart
The boot from j crew felt half size smaller and is visibly shorter as well.
Wonder what's the experience for fourmer with regards to this.
So in the future I would have to buy a us7.5 on the trubalance if it's not
From j crew ?...

Your description is a little hard to follow.  Let me summarize and tell me if I've made a mistake...

Boot 1:  J Crew plain toe, tan calf on Trubalance (8D)

Boot 2: Shoe Mart, Natural chromexyl on Modified last (8D)

I don't have any experience with the modified last, but the Trubalance shouldn't fit smaller in width or length.  I would not recommend sizing up a half size for Alden for J Crew make-ups.  Some say the barrie lasted boots fit a little more narrow than the barrie shoes, but other than that there shouldn't be inconsistencies. Are either of the two boots irregulars?  Even if one or both are irregulars, the sizing should be the same.  Not sure what to tell you other than good luck.

Last chart for reference...
