I guess it's real and I can only guess that we will not be seeing rare shells in a few years...

or maybe, ppl should start eating horse meat again, according to the news...

only 15% is processed compared to what they used to have explains why the price keeps going upwards.

It could be that the writer is just a fellow styleforum member who decided to write a piece about what we already suspected. Hardly makes things official. And also the 15% figure means nothing because the article states that starting last year, they already started reaching pre-drought levels, meaning the cordovan supply wasn't that great even pre-drought. The first 80% drop could have been in 1920 for all we know.

I guess you may be right. I think no matter how scarce the shells seem to be. I guess it's always right to keep this in mind. If you want to be in this Alden game, you need to have some stash of money ready whenever something pops up.

Welcome to the forum....

The forum skews heavily cordovan, but this model is an all time Alden classic and one of my favorites

Reading the article doesn't paint the picture quite this way

1) down to 15% relative to 1905 means little to us, more relavent is what percentage compared to 2010-2012 for example

2) the shortage started in late 2012, so with the 6 month tanning process - the market starts getting pinched in mid 2013

3) Horween reported that supply levels returned to pre-drought levels by the end of 2013, meaning the blip was a 12 month trough

So, while there is presently a relative shortage compared to 2012, by late 2014 / early 2015 we should reasonably expect output from the factory to return to what is was pre shortage.

While demand will still exceed supply, the summary is positive - more is on the way.

BN

Is it just me, or do these tassels have a hand stitched moc toe (as opposed to the normal machine stitching)

That pair is a special makeup from LS, they offered the tan, snuff, and dark brown suede for pre-order all at the same time back in January 2012, which finally got delivered like 2 years later. I asked them when they will be running these again and they said they will add my name to the "dream wish list." Not a good sign, haha.

Could be, hard to say.  One thing that I am pretty confident about is that they are not on Aberdeen.  Copley, perhaps?

A little Saturday morning juxtaposition.

"Work" on the right
"Play" on the left

Looking at this photo, I realize how ridiculous my work boots/shoes look. shog[1].gif
