Good to see Alden's dark brown suede getting a bit more recognition, for a while we only saw snuff, tan and maybe some navy

Ah makes sense. I've seen the brass eyelets on several Jcrew models now including the recent alpine grain captoe. Looks nice.

Are these guys on the Crepe Sole?

yep, crepe sole. I think it is an underrated choice - it's extremely comfortable to stand and walk in

My preference would be to have all those fine pairs of shoes, my friend

Much thanks my friend!

Ordered two pairs of Brooks Brothers Perforated Cordovan Cap Toes (made by Alden). One pair that came was model 15149, the other was model 9016. I'm guessing the 9016 was old stock on the hampton and the 15149 is the new stock on the snap. Can anyone confirm 15149 is snap?

BB's Perforated Cap Toe 15149 is indeed on Snap last.

The 8.5D fit fine with thin/midweight socks and the 9D fits fine with thicker socks. But they look like clown shoes on me. I was thinking that maybe it's because I tried them on with tapered jeans/chinos, but my other shoes don't look that big.

Sorry Mike but I used your pic to depict my problem:

My toe joint falls in the same place as where Mike's roll is, and that first line is about where my toe ends, giving about 1.25~1.5'' of toe room. I get some heel slip but pretty minimal, and expect it to go away when the shoe is broken in. My inseam is 30'' and I'm 5'10''. So why is it that both the size 8.5D and the 9D look like clown shoes? I'll post some pics later tonight. I love the fit, I love the clunkiness of the last, it's just that it looks awkwardly big relative to my body.

Maybe I need to go down in length and up in width?

Were practically foot twins!  Got any Aldens you want to unload?

Try the 9d AE Macneils (blasphemy!).  They are slightly sleeker that the 975s.  I had some, but that last doesn't do it for my feet.  Your foot imprint will settle on the 8.5 Aldens and you can go to using slightly thicker socks, though.

The 9016 is literally the same shoe as the stock 9016. That must have been very very old stock. Where did you buy it?

NST (old school ravello), LWB (reddish ravello), Cigar LWB, PTB (recent, dark ravello)

Old-school ravello (NST)

Reddish Ravello (LWB)

Recent, dark ravello (PTB)

Cigar LWB

RL Marlow Brown shell

Last shot comparing the two LWBs...
I suppose my answer is I would snag whichever ones become available to you @sacafotos

(Sorry no photos indoors; pics always come out too dark)

Anyone have a preference?

Great shoes. Perhaps I am biased, as I happen to own them all, including the Marlow. biggrin.gif

Of the colors that are in the pictures - which are all nice in their own way - my least favorite, by a long shot, is the red ravello.

Uncle, you pull off these full strap very nicely. I just can't see myself in them at this moment. maybe a couple of years later I will try again.

those chocolate suede LWB on antique are calling me.. never really digged into alden suede, is this another of those preorder every 24 months or a fairly common arrival at various retailers?

TIA

While I like my reddish ravello LWB very much, I agree with you Seven.

Greetings gentlemen! Longtime lurker, first time poster. Quite a dynamic and informative group you have here!

I'll have to post more of my collection soon, but for now, here is a beautiful pair of chukkas in snuff suede that just arrived...

Shell cordovan shortage.  Perhaps there is some truth to this:
