Agreed, as we just saw with the ravello PTBs that just sold on eBay. I think only the ultra-rare 1% of shell shoes/boots will sell for double or triple the retail price. While I love the #8 naval boot, there are too many alternatives that are readily available to justify a sky-high prices on the secondary market. On the flip side, there aren't too many alternatives to a #4 wingtip boot.
The recent ebays items that sold for crazy money bc of their ultra limited runs. The cigar jumpers are only offered byLS to select individuals so this was likely the first opportunity for the hoi polloi to have a shot at them. General exotics likely will not go for that much.
Exactly. Those cigars only went that high because they were Jumpers from LS. If someone were to list something that comes around in rotation like a color 8 boot used. I highly doubt its getting 1000 dollars plus.
Its just like when everyone goes and buys 4 PS4's thinking they are going to make enough to retire and find themselves returning them to the store because they dont sell on eBay for 10,000 dollars.
Plus in reality if you pay 760 dollars for some boots and they sell for 900 on eBay. By the time you pay eBay and Paypal their fees + shipping and the time and effort, is it really worth the trouble to buy them, wait 3 months, sell, ship, await feedback or returns. All that for a lousy 40 bucks.
For color 8 its just demand, Styleforum does help it greatly but also remember there's AskAndy, Reddit and numerous other online styleboards full of people talking about the same shoe released the 15 of us are.
Just my $1, cause my thoughts are worth more than 2 cents. :)
