This is an insult to your intelligence.  I am surprised (but not shocked) to hear that this was their response.

Thank you Bakes, I know that I must ultimately decide whether or not the defects are significant enough to return (leaning toward keeping them), but at least they should acknowledge that they are not typical......I would rather have a slight tear in the toungue that is not visible when laced than obvious blemishes in the finish or multi-colored shell panels.....will be taking them out in the sun today to inspect more closely before making a decision.

I have purchased several "2nds" from The Shoe Mart with no apparent blemishes, so I find it hard to believe that it is common for shell to have visible tears in the hide.

As I've said - there are those here that view this as an issue, and I get that, to each their own.  Personally I wouldn't have any concern about that hole in a spot that will never see the light of day - the only people that would ever know its there are you and the others here on this forum.

You're wasting your time looking for some sort of acknowledgement from Kathy?  So she say "sorry we missed it", and you somehow feel better about them?  Its either about money off to drop them into "seconds" range, or its a total waste of time in my opinion.

With this thought process I would simply send them back - nobody is "pi$$ing on you telling you its raining" - you're obsessing over what amounts to little, and no apology will make that right; they will be resold at retail to somebody else.

Actually, your best play may be to throw them up on Ebay and profit from this whole thing...

Thank you beebs.
I plan on having a good day.

Atl,
I would keep the boots, don't look back, don't think about it anymore.
I would keep them w the flaws if they fit right.
Fit pic by tomorrow.

I was talking to Moulded yesterday about putting commando on a pair of Modified LWB. They quoted me approx $240 for OEM commando soles, and said it would take about 10 days.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I have viewed almost every post on this thread over the past 2 years and cannot recall seeing another pair of shell shoes or boots with a visibile tear and I find it hard to believe that the hole will magically repair itself.

I hate to send these back but honestly feel that they are not 1st quality, whether or not the tear will get worse over time.....it doesn't sound like they are willing to offer any type of discount but I will call today and speak with Kathy before making a decision.

IMO Bakes11771 is right about this response being an insult to your intelligence, yet not at all surprising.
