Sources at Ebay are telling me that Emma is high bidder right now on those Color 4s.

^^ Just put them on watch out of curiosity. Although I know the final price will be mentioned here many, many, many, many times.

Muuahahahahahahahahaha. Now you aren't the only one that knows about that Nigerian Prince that is selling off his collection... crackup[1].gif

My CC is maxxed out and now my checking account is wiped out, but I'm sure it's just a misunderstanding and they'll refund me.

Update on the cigar cap toes.....I heard back from DC and their response to the tear in the shell was, "there are often cuts on all shell cordovan shoes just as there are blemishes on all the hides."

Their response to the hole was, "after you wear it, it may compress together."

I have viewed almost every post on this thread over the past 2 years and cannot recall seeing another pair of shell shoes or boots with a visibile tear and I find it hard to believe that the hole will magically repair itself.

I hate to send these back but honestly feel that they are not 1st quality, whether or not the tear will get worse over time.....it doesn't sound like they are willing to offer any type of discount but I will call today and speak with Kathy before making a decision.

I've replied a few times to your post in contrast to the reply most others here.

Of course the hole will not close -

But what are you actually looking for - $50, $100?

You don't want to send them back - so you've associated a number to the defect, what is it - if you don't mind me asking?

Cheers,

It's best that you get out now. My 9 year old daughter is constantly nagging me "Daddddyyyyyy, are you on style forum AGAIN, buying somebody's old shoes???"

Thanks all. She is doing good now, first week we had some scares, but we have an excellent childrens hospital here and she was in great hands.

This auction IMO has gotten out of hand, I mean they are used shoes, that have been cared for well, but used is used. I can't imagine what they would go for new. I wasn't really trying for charity bids on them as I do alright. These boots are kind of a gateway drug, that when thought about, makes me think I need more of these rare shell releases which now days takes up way too much time and money to get. My wife was less than thrilled when I showed her the auctions, even at the current bidding, she thinks I'll regret selling them. She said if I was going to thin out one of my vices I should've started with my whiskey bunker. I didn't want to scare her and tell her that I think I'm going to need booze a lot more than shoes.

It's actually kind of surprising because everything else is geared completely toward the buyer. Then again, if you're going to get nearly $2k (or over?) in the US, why mess with it. Many have US proxy addresses anyway.

It is almost tempting as I've had no less than a dozen people ask if I will ship to Japan.

Yea, I wouldn't see the point of asking for $50 or $100. What good does that do? It doesn't fix the boot or bring them down to seconds pricing.

I know it sends a bad message to Alden, but I'd keep them. Unless you hang the boots by the tongue, I really don't see the tear propagating.
Even if you were to return the boots, the word will never get back to Alden. They will be sold at full price to another customer.

Cheers,

Not really about a discount, just some kind of acknowledgement that they sent something that is not 1st quality......I believe that the expression is "don't piss on me and tell me it is raining."

I have purchased several "2nds" from The Shoe Mart with no apparent blemishes, so I find it hard to believe that it is common for shell to have visible tears in the hide.

1) No there are not

2) No it won't

This is an insult to your intelligence.  I am surprised (but not shocked) to hear that this was their response.

Great ensemble Mr DV!  Thank you for putting this thread back on track.  I can only handle so many "what should I do about this defect?" and "I can't believe this many people want to buy someone else's smelly Color 4" posts.
