That tear is embarrassing! They should be ashamed. (yeah, like they care when they're moving $750 boots faster than we can say Cha-Ching)

I would return as well.

It is a personal decision and the fact remains someone will pay $750 for it. Alden does not need any one persons contribution, supply and demand my friends.

You know what surprises me Saz, how these rare shell boots passed QC at both, Alden and Kathy. I hope my upcoming Leffot NST will be worry free happy.gif

As far as we all know, sometimes it's like hit and miss but I'm still like the the brand lol

I don't get the impression that retailers even open the shoe boxes before shipping, personally.

I know that Kathy does, as she has done so for me on the phone a few times. Not so sure about the others though.

Adam does as well, but apparently Alden doesn't :D

I would assume that is only because you are on the phone. I could be totally off base... Or maybe they just don't look at them with magnifying glasses like us Alden addicts!

As Sazon pointed out, I always ask both, Kathy (DC) and Jim (SF) to personally inspect my orders.

Far as I know, Alden DC inspected every pair of the cigar ct boots..though perhaps as not as in detail as some of us would.

I don't recall when the preorder was, but I took delivery of mine from Leffot only a month or so ago, Natural on Commando, may be worth calling them

The first is a hole in the edge where the commando sole meets with the leather......it is probably the size of a pencil tip.

The second is a tear in the tongue that goes completely through the leather.....hard to tell the length but it is about 1/4 of an inch.

Neither of these would be an issue or concern for me personally. Why loose sleep over a hole in the tongue of a shoe in a spot you will never see? I would have zero concern about it tearing...

You can call and try to get a few dollars off, but honestly, my time (and likely yours) is worth more than the $50-$100 you may get back, so what's the point.

Good luck either way, those are great boots.

I don't see why not.

It can, but I'm not sure B Nelson has the same commando sole that Alden uses.  I'm sure someone here can confirm...

That and the Tremont is pretty bulky and round (not as much as the barrie), and the 974 is on a double leather sole.  The BB version is on a single leather sole.

The Alden commando sole is very low profile. I love that and don't mind it on a semi casual shoe. I prefer the durability over double leather. For more dressy occasions id prefer flex soles. Will resole leather shoes with JR soles from now on.
