^Also in Alden's favor is that a one-off Carmina MTO is rather expensive. I think something like their list price +50%. You'd really have to want the shoe and it wouldn't make much sense for a staple item. You could order directly I think or through certain retailers.
And I suppose if they do have batches of shoes running through the production process it may be more of a matter of the trouble of going back to a previous makeup than the supply of materials.
Maybe they will show up as seconds. Then you'll get a discount!

True, but I do place a strong value on being able to order what I want whenever I want with a more predictable delivery time frame.

If they do come up on the seconds list, I'll never forgive the man who cops them before I do!

My 2 cents:
I have these 3 models, all in color 8 (tassels and LHS (unlined) from BB). I agree that the order of formality is tassels, then full strap, then LHS - but the level of formality of tassels and full strap is close.
I wear none with suits. I wear tassels and full strap with business casual. I wear the LHS strictly casual, even without socks (in summer), and sometimes with shorts.
If I could only keep one, it would be the LHS.
All of them are nice options. :D

I agree with all of this.

I probably would not wear any loafers with a dark, conservative suit, but I might wear a pair of LHS with a khaki cotton suit in the spring or summer (I happen to own neither of these items, which I should perhaps rectify).

ye there're two versions out there, leather sole and dainite sole. According to the sales in store, CJ made a mistake by making some with leather sole instead of dainite sole, which BB wanted. So after getting my order, which was with leather sole, I did an exchange to dainite sole. Can be less careful ha!

Would like to hear opinions before a purchase. Out of these three shoes, LHS, Full strap, Tassel, which do you prefer for casual/work, yet everyday use. If the tassel is the most formal of the three, ordinarily it would still be worn with denim/casual clothing?

IMHO, I would go with the Tassel Moc. It is Alden's original creation from back in the 40's(?). For me, the sizing was the best of the three. The LHS is classic prepster, but a little too wide for a slip-on (I can still make it work). The full strap was very difficult to find a proper fitting size. Last summer at Alden DC, I had found a ravello full strap on sale for $500 (score!!), in a 10.5D which is my TTS. But due to the low vamp, I couldn't walk with it not falling off my foot. We tried different sizes in the full strap and couldn't narrow it down (no pun intended). The Tassel moc in 10.5D fits perfectly even though they are on the same last.

I really like the Tassel Moc, esp. the BB version.

Ah, I got hit with the plain white box too. I don't think I ever posted about that though. All I sent in were the boots in the box (I kept the shoe bags and the laces). Otherwise Alden did a great job for me (on two different pair). I suggest calling the factory.

Got my Alden's back from repair.

I shipped them back in the original/box + packaging.

Here is what I received:
- Boots dirtier than I remember
- Plain white box (not original green Alden box)
- No cloth shoebags
- Enamel chipped on some of the speedhooks

This was after:
- Receiving the boots +1 month after originally told
- +1 month to repair

Suffice to say, Alden will never get my business again.

I cannot believe they shipped me back dirty boots without so much as a quick clean-up/buffing while they were supposedly at the Factory. They also robbed me out of the original packaging and bags.

I've had better customer service from Zappo's on $50 sneakers, and these are +$700 shoes. Alden clearly does not value their customers.

I am going to contact Alden directly, as this is not an issue with the dealer (J. Gilbert/Yenni), as things have gone smoothly on that end.

Very disappointed.

I'm kicking myself for missing out on the Unionmade Indy boots.

Anyone know where/how I could get a similar pair with the Goodyear wedge sole? I've been waiting for a similar look since last year's NeedSupply version.

Are you looking more for the cognac leather or the wedge sole?

It's an imperfect solution, but you can have wedge soles put on another Indy boot. I have the Goodyear wedge sole on my LS conservation boot. It's very comfortable, but gets dirty quickly. I haven't found a good way of cleaning them.

May want to call or email the actual stores. Sometimes they have product in stores that is not shown on the website. I had that happen on something else from them. JT
