Been out of the Alden buying game for about a year, and I just checked out shoemart to see what's new. Looks like Alden prices went up $100 on all cordovans. Unbelievable. Couldn't imagine how much the whiskey Indy would go for now (if available). Over $800? Woof.

I may have to consider selling most of my collection (hang on to my five favorite pairs).  The rest would probably pay for the whole collection!:slayer:

I think there are a handful of people who have liquidated pairs, both new and used, to profit from the high demand and high prices Aldens command.

Back to our favorite shoes...

2145s today (Color 8 Cap toe medallions)

What a great Alden stock model.  Non-use of spoiler intentional so this picture shows again.

Thanks @aldenwear !  With the shortage extended to Black shell, I think my next target will be one of the following...

Black shell saddle

Black shell NST (color 8 is also in the mix for this one)

Black Shell medallion ctb

Black Shell chukka on commando (maybe color 8 here also)

Any suggestions?? Additions to the list to consider?

Also, I tried having my local BB SA find a pair of the color 8 (or black shell) shortwing bals on the M-75 last.  A couple of days later, the SA called me to inform me that there isn't a single pair in stock in any BB stores across the country and that Alden will no longer make that shoe for BB.  (I'm crushed!)

What size are you? I wouldn't be so sure that they are completely sold out. I know for a fact that Brooks Brothers madison avenue has a bunch of sizes still in stock.

I've called the 800 number before to ask about availability in stores and found that they don't have a very good idea of what is available. (They have told me completely sold out and I've found items at 346 Madison Ave).

Good thing I grabbed two pairs during the last corporate sale. This is my favorite work shoe.

Does anyone know of a stockist who regularly carries a snuff PTB on a double leather or double waterlock sole?

Many people. Pick a few big retailers or Alden or the Alden shops and someone should have it

Alden x leather soul cxl ultimate indys today. Went a little crazy with Reno when I first got them, so they're way darker than what they should be. Any suggestions on getting the old cxl color back?

My next target is what you posted today.  And maybe, as you have on your hit list, the black shell version.  I also have on my list the shortwing monk at Alden Madison in both color 8 and black shell (I am thrilled about this make-up), and the standard model shortwing balmoral in color 8 and maybe the black shell.  I have no particular time horizon for these, so I am not so concerned about any shortages.

As for suggestions, unless you don't like monks, I recommend taking a look at the shortwing monk straps at Alden Madison.  It is a new make-up and if you like monk straps and shortwings and don't think the combination is too much of too many good things, you may be interested in this model.

As to your last-listed model, the chukka in black shell, Fransboone currently has in many sizes a black shell chukka on barrie last with six eyelets (instead of the Alden standard two eyelets).  You may find the Fransboone model meets your need.

Also as to shell chukkas, I am really fond of the George boot, which is the Alden chukka, but with a buckle instead of laces - a chukka monk (Chunkie monkey?).  Alden Madison has George boots in both color and black shell on the Aberdeen last -- which makes the chukka style look much less clunky and much more elegant than on the barrie last. Unless you have to have ties and the barrie last, I would recommend considering filling your chukka needs with these.

Or, in true Style Forum tradition, you can get both chukkas and George boots!

Happy hunting.

I own, or have owned, every black shell model you mention above (and the color 8 versions too) - except that my chukkas have been double leather. Are you looking for business wear only? Casual wear only? Or business and casual?

As for Alden no longer making the SW Bal for BB, I would take that with a grain of salt. A few years ago I was told that with respect to the shell tassel. Those have been restocked once, if not twice, since then.

I don't have any CXL, but my experience with conditioners darkening leather is that it eventually lightens back up with wear. I wouldn't sweat it, the harder you try to "fix it" the more you're just putting crap on your shoes. They look great as it is!
