I too am familiar with the "it's not the same in here" comment in forums.  It's usually uttered by old timers who championed the forum in it's early days.  They rarely post now, but laments how good the old day was.  But when prodded for more participation, you get the "It's not the same in here anymore" reply.  It's a vicious cycle.

But let's get back to Alden talk.

I am wearing my first Cigar acquisition - a LWB.

All this talk about the "good o' days".

When I bought my first Aldens TSM had Cigar, Ravello, and Whiskey in several different makeups. My first two were Ravello WT boots and Cigar LWB (wearing those today). A year or so later I got some Cigar Indy's from TSM as well. I believe the LWB were around $620 and the Ravello boots were only a few dollars more. The cigar Indy boots were $702 and that was the first time I broke the $700 mark. With Carmina MTO's I've done that a few other times now.

Maybe a big part of it is that the landscape of Alden environment has changed, and this thread is merely a reflection of that?  I don't know, probably to a degree, but not the whole story.

One example is that when someone suggests something or shares an opinion, half-a-dozen people immediately try to invalidate or disprove it.

This is sort of what I'm proposing, but more from Mac's perspective.  I don't really consider myself an old timer.

What's to get over ... he posts pics, recommends his method and acknowledges other's acquisitions.

I don't think the people have necessarily changed.  I think Kwaker is correct; Uncle routinely posted pics, offered friendly advice and support, and maintained nice relations with many regulars here. But, that routine could get old after a very long while.  I've been here for a couple of years and do not have the same vigor for following the thread as I had a year ago.  I still enjoy keeping up, I can imagine that my participation will wane in the coming year or two.  Who knows, maybe even sooner.

In any case, (pardon the cliché) I don't think it is any one person or collection of people here.  I suppose people just move on.  I bet though, we have not seen the last of our beloved Uncle.

In all seriousness though, I haven't noticed this thread evolving into something overtly contentious.  I avoid the AE thread for that exact reason.  However, I could certainly be oblivious to it here.

I was looking for your opinion. I may read back (which I'm not) and not find any difference. If you don't want to share I'm fine with that too.

Wow! From where? Not sure I've see this model, only a medallion bal in calfskin from TSM.
