I would stick with the 110 given the darker welt and edge trim

For suits, if you're talking about conservative ensembles, a captoe (balmoral) would always be the better option right?

If you're talking about casual suits, isn't it more fun to rock an antique edge sole?

Hmmmm. Although it is rather sleek, I think the commando would just be too much for a suit. I think the 975 works in all situations. I wear my Leffot LWB with business casual and I don't think it looks out of place. If I was wearing a suit and I had both, I'd pick the 975.

Edit: But then again, the commando does kinda make them the ultimate all arounder.

I've owned all three of the shoes in question (975, Leffot antique LWB, BB wingtip balmoral).

The contrast between the color 8 upper and the antique sole on the Leffot longwings can be pretty striking - I found it pretty difficult to wear the Leffot LWB with conservative suits. To the point where I didn't wear it often. It could work with casual suits though (khaki suits, etc) or on the weekend with denim.

My BB color 8 balmoral wingtips are among my favorite shoes and get worn once or twice a week. But I wouldn't really wear them with casual outfits like weened chinos or denim.

The 975 is a happy medium in that it can be worn with a true business suit or with denim. Really the 975 and the 990 are among the few shoes that can fit this role (Ralph Lauren Marlow is another one).

If you could get only one, get the 975.

If you could buy two, get a wingtip balmoral and the Leffot LWB (or a cigar LWB, which fits a similar role)

The best answer, as always, is to buy all three

I realize I'm probably in the minority here, but I have no problem wearing antique edge LWBs (such as Cigar or Leffot's version of the 975) with a suit. The only suits I wouldn't wear with antique edge shoes would be the most conservative, such a plain navy or grey in a smooth worsted fabric. Anything else I don't think it's that big of a deal, just IMHO.

Finally got back in town and was able to open my Alden DC cigar captoe boots. I'm very pleased with the color, which is very similar to my older chukkas, and also the recent Alden NY LWB. No issues with QC on any of my recent pick ups. Before any of the fashion police comments on my jeans. I'm a big guy and it's really hard to find anything in my size for the "cool guy" jeans. The ones I'm wearing are Ralph Lauren. Hoping everyone has a great week!

See Ya,
Steve
