The cigar PTB I bought last year had the finishing flaking off like Patrick's. I returned them to DC and the just sold them to someone else. Someone will eventually be able to live with the defect.

I still second guess my decision to send them back for refinishing. I lived with them for a month before the streaking got to me. I didn't even notice it until day two or three when I wore them outside in the sun. But once I was aware of it, I couldn't *not* see it. Had the streaks been horizontal, they would have likely blended in with the creases/rolls. But since they ran length wise, it bothered me.

I'm sure Ryden's would simply be resold if he chooses to return as well. El Argentino bolded comment says it all. I'm growing fonder and fonder of UK's shoemakers these days. I love my shell Aldens and wear them often but I don't see myself buying any new Aldens in the near future. Coniston or Galway will likely be my next acquisition.

Got the suede indy shoe from Habderdash in.. very surprised that it fits too small. Despite being an 11.5D on trubalance, it fits much tighter than the 11.5D shell ptbs on the barrie that I have. Oh well, guess I will make my money back selling them for 450 to someone in Japan wink.gif

Sorry about those defects Ryden. I know how that feels. I think we have all had it happen.

Racing stripes (more pronounced in person)

Missing piece

The line on the upper, near the welt, is just a reflection, right?

Has everyone heard back from DC who should have expected to?

I was 4 of 4 I believe and one 12D in this thread said they passed on their spot. Wondering if they are still going through the orders or if a call is in order?

I wasn't on the list, but I emailed them on the off chance that a 12D might be available. Kathy responded and said they were all taken, not sure if that included you or not. You should probably contact them to see if they're all gone.

Yes, you are being way too picky - put 'me on your feet and enjoy them.

Seriously.

I'd keep the boots. They're not that bad.

t's like vu da je every time a long awaited special order arrives. Some are satisfied, others get screwed, and then there's 5 pages of QC discussion. Bottom line...this is the brand. Alden has been very consistent with their mediocre quality and curmudgeonly attitude toward customer service for the 20 years I've been buying them. I've had a number of pairs arrive with considerable defects only to get a response of basically you're SOL and return for a refund. And this has been straight from the top in some cases.

I still buy the occasional pair if the price is right or the style interests me, but I've moved on. Alden isn't a great value proposition at current prices and will only get worse.

Amazing, amazing pic. I just picked up both the 975 and PCT from jcrew and I hope mine age as well as yours. Thanks for sharing.

Following along the Indy Natty thread, What about the Natty Indy with double water lock vs Natty LWB with commando sole and light antique edge for Jeans and Chinos.

This is why I'm eyeing that Viberg Natty CXL derby that might get made. Bulletproof quality (love my service boot) and their customer service is impeccable. AND they're old school, big time, so I don't consider that an excuse for slow/poor communication.

Hell, as much as AE gets bashed, their customer service is an order of magnitude better than Alden's it seems.

Ryden,

I would seriously keep it, man. Don't sweat that stuff. We are talking about the skin of a creature that may take dye differently in different places. Ah well.

If you're an 8D, I'd take it off your hands.

I have to agree about being too picky, if you are looking for perfection Alden is not the brand for you. I dont see anything about your boots that would bother me, but if you are unhappy send them back. Someone else will get them.
