Your pics are always so amazing (as are your shoes)!

Thank you, that's very nice.

My ravello tassels are basically a medium brown, which I like. I've had ravello ranging from orange to deep red. I find those hard to incorporate

Still dont understand the appeal of red shoes.... other than they are rare.

Where can you find a natural cxl LWB similar to Leffot's release?  I'm 7.5D barrie.

Thanks.

Try Unionmade.

Another day in the life of Alden...wait 14 months on a wait list, get the grail and feel totally let down by QC...please tell me if you guys feel I am being to picky

Very inconsistent welt color

Racing stripes (more pronounced in person)

Missing piece

^ None of those issues would be a deal breaker for me. But that's easy from this side of the monitor.

based off those photos, I'd keep them (and I hate having to even say that, but we all know about wait times etc)

My pair that just arrived did not show up without issue, but I'll deal with them (some sloppy edge dressing, some black spots on the leather that I think I can reno off)

Not as concerned with the welt issues. The coloring of the upper is an issue for me. I would not be happy with those. Sorry, Ryden.

I'm a big fan of Alden shoes but paying upwards of $800 after tax for shoes like this, I dunno. It's probably an easy return for any other maker, but since this is a "grail" piece due to scarcity, probably best to keep if you want this in your collection.

Stripes not so bad since your pants will cover most of it.

Welt color isn't too bad... adds some cool character.

The cut is sucky... I bought 2 pairs of Indy's in different sizes so I could pick the one that fit best. The one that was too small had this same exact cut and I was so happy it wasn't on the pair I was keeping.

I would call and see what they can do. They should probably be classed as seconds.

My thoughts exactly. However, I don't think the finish is all that bad (again...just my opiunion).

Some of you may remember this cigar nightmare last year. I eventually returned these cigar PTB's for refund. Finish was streaked. I had them refinished by Alden and it came back super dark, then flaked off. Note, I boosted contrast heavily to show the finish. In normal light and especially indoors, it wasn't this noticeable.

After refinishing and subsequent flaking:

A week later:

So perhaps I'm looking at your boots from my frame of reference. In the end, it sucks you have to make the decision at all. I wouldn't recommend sending them back to Alden for refinishing.

Good luck!

At the risk of stating the obvious, it will come down to what you can live with. No shoe is worth $800 with defects in my opinion. My grail was the Leffot tanker and when they arrived with a defect it was either a 25% credit/discount or a return. They agreed to the credit and I kept the boot. Maybe Alden DC will be as accommodating and take something off the price. I know they don't have to because they can resell it at full price. Just because they don't have to doesn't mean they shouldn't. If Kathy is as good as advertised, she will gladly take something off for these boots. If she does, mu guess is that you will be much less conflicted about keeping them.

patrick, that is embarrassing..

someone built that shoe, then refinished it, on a friday

TBH, I don't know if the streaking would've bugged me so much on such a dark colored shell to begin with. Might show a bit under direct light, but I figure that patina's out relatively quickly.

The #8 captoe boots I picked up from Namor streak a bit across the right toe-box. Always just thought it was an interesting detail of hand-crafted shoes.

Can definitely understand y'all's apprehension about getting those BNIB though, and especially for $800.

But we all know what we're getting into with Alden. If you want a pristine shoe, look elsewhere.
