It's the way I built my collection of rare shell. I think that's the way you did too Mike!

Does anyone else experience crumpled tongue on the indy boots, specifically shell? I noticed the tongue kind of hunched up and found it crumpled at the base a bit. I tried stretching them back but the tongue is pretty stubborn on staying crumpled. It does not really affect the wearing experience, but I cringe and groan when I look down and see the tongue of the boots bunched up at the base (where tongue is attached to upper).

Decided to stop whining long enough to share a couple of acquisitions from last week. Color 8 monk straps from the Bay and cigar LWB's from a fellow SF'er (thanks to z8k1n for a great transaction).

The only downside is that the cigar is pretty close to my new Carmina's......

Monks were acquired for $175 shipped, which is strange because they just came back from Alden recrafting. Both fit like a glove and I couldn't be happier.

I can confirm what Mike said. I was in the DC store last week and had a nice chat with Kathy. They do now keep a spreadsheet with with the sizes ordered, the number of pairs, and names of customers on the list. The part I'm not sure about is if one needs to talk to Kathy to be added to that spreadsheet, as I've only seen her physically add names to the list.

There were a lot of lists in her folder and were not securely fixed into the notebook. DC got a new guy who is more tech savvy and now they do the lists on their computer in a spreadsheet. She doesn't just cross people off the list on purpose and put her favorites on there. I may or may not be able to get a Cigar CT Boot depending on if a few in my size pass or not and I have bought a lot from them and talked to them a lot. Just my two cents. Sorry Bakes that you got the short end of a stick in the past. But they do seem to be more organized now on the special order department.

Nice score !

Base on the photo, the cigar has a slight olive tone in it. I would not say the colors of carmina and alden are close.

Ok, this is my last whine for the night (and hopefully forever). When the flurry of activity about the cigar Captoes started roughly a month ago I called Alden DC and inquired about getting on a list. The SA (a guy presumably not Kathy) seemed much more interested in getting me off the phone than helping me get a shot at the cigar Captoes or any other list. I thought about calling back and asking for Kathy but was apporpriately pissed off and decided to move on. And as someone else mentioned a few posts ago I never mentioned it because everyone seems to rave about Alden DC. Really not intending to be bitchy. Probably just the pre-Monday blues. Time for sleep.

Yea or nay?

Where is this makeup from?  I can find them in the Plaza last with all eyelets from jgilbert, I can find Jcrew which has hooks, but on the barrie last (same with Unionmade).  I'd love to find a rounded-toe (barrie or grant) boot in Shell with all eyelets.

Check citishoes.com; hard to tell if eyelets or speedhooks, but worth exploring.

Alden stores are getting a lot of flack here today. Must say, the two guys I have spoke with at DC store, and three different ones from SF were all nice, patient with my questions, and answered all of them. One SA from the San Fran store was patient even when I called Sat just before store closing. And yes, he did get my business #RavelloPTB. I also spoke to Kathy once to confirm my name on the list, and she was just as nice as is her reputation here.

This was why I didn't make a stink back when it happened.  Not trying to get into a pissing match in terms of whether the folks at Retailer X are all horrible or all angels.  YMMV.  I was not pleased.  9 out of 10 might be.  That does not, I think, invalidate my point.

I've probably talked to most if not all of the Alden retailers in the US that regularly get MTO styles. All but 1 was very accommodating with my questions, I wont flame the one that wasnt but most know who that is. I was put on some lists for some shoes I know are coming but I will probably continue to follow up because with no deposit, nothing is guaranteed.

Ive never really chimed in on the argument that a retailer should sell exclusive makeups to only certain clients. Really? These are business's. I understand the reasoning to continue to throw rare shoes at these clients but I could provide way more counterpoints to this approach than its even worth. It seems more like a battle of who can spend more money than an actual argument over loyalty to the business.

Nonetheless, Ive been very pleased with all of my shoe buying experiences.

That's them!  Thanks for the hook up.

These will have to do until I can get some #4, #2, whiskey, ravello, any color option out there in a Shell boot.  I'll call DC and try and get on a list.

You are looking for the 4060. It's all eyelets on a double leather sole on the Grant last. I think TheShoeMart and CitiShoes stock it.
