I can't stand how much it has been raining recently. I tend to avoid wearing my shell (leather sole or commando) when it is raining. Do people wear their shell in the rain? Should I suck it up and just apply Defender and wear them out when it is raining? I have some great shell boots and shoes but it seems I rarely wear them with the amount of rain (and previous to that, snow) that we have been getting where I live.
I wear several Alden (and non-Alden) shell shoes in the rain all the time with no ill effects. Perhaps, I am old school or conservative or whatever, but I don't put Defender on my shoes. I never really thought Defender was necessary since shell cordovan is so water resistant/ non porous. I just wipe off wet shell shoes after they have become wet, and set them down on the sides to dry.
Isn't part of the point of shell boots that they are wonderful in inclement weather?
I am genuinely curious to hear whether others avoid rain for the shell. I recognize some are probably afraid to soak $700+ shoes they otherwise baby.
