Not thrilled that I paid more than the current price, but at this price point, I'm not going to sweat a hundred bucks.

Not to belabor the point but the price is 510 euros on the Carmina site. Outside the EU, you get 20% off for VAT (down to 425 Euro) but Carmina charges somewhere around 35 euros for shipping and you may be hit with customs charges depending on where in the world you live. When it's all said and done, you're looking at paying somewhere around US$650-700 shipped to your door. No real price arbitrage from buying local (if you're fortunate enough to have a local retailer) and getting to try on.

Anyway, I bought a pair as well from Steve at Gentemen's Footwear during his 15% off Winter sale which worked out to US$675. Looking forward to taking delivery sometime in early May and will compare to my 975 when I get them in. Will try to get some pics up as well.

You will almost certainly get hit with customs if living in the US.

Those are burgundy. Nice find!!

Just made my first Alden purchase, went with the Union Hill Indy Boot from NS. Solid choice?

If you think so, yes.  I do happen to think it is a beautiful boot.  It's all ultimately about getting what you want according to your own taste, so I wouldn't put too much thought into whether others affirm that or not.  If you took a poll, the majority of this board would tell you to get a plain toe blucher as your first Alden.  Your taste is not the same as that reflected in a group poll, however.  (I, myself, am not ever going to pick up an Alden PTB - not that there is anything wrong with them).

At the time I never thought I'd be able to snag a rarer makeup, but patience and a simple call to a store landed me this prize. Best advice to those looking for Alden in the age of online shopping? Pickup the phone and make some calls!

Outstanding patina you have developed, there. Have you really worn them hundreds of times over just 2 years? Aside from the patina, they don't look that aged!

Thank you! Initially I wasn't 100% sold on the darker cigar tone, but now I just love how the olive and dark cigar play off each other in sunlight, very eye-catching.

You should absolutely try and get a pair! Call Alden DC, I believe they get these in twice a year.

Thanks! Maybe hundreds is an overstatement, but most definitely at least 'a hundred'. I generally wear them 3 times a week during spring/fall/winter, you could possibly classify this as 'over-wearing' them. I only have three Aldens in my rotation (black calfskin nst, BB tan suede moc toe).

Note the extra creasing on the shoe to the right, the leather on the vamp is a bit thinner than the other boot. Lots of minor scratches that don't quite show up in the picture, up close they look well worn (but also well taken care of, if I do say so myself :) ). While I don't 'baby' them (they've seen a ton of rain), I also most definitely don't go out of my way to beat them up. I pretty much walk everywhere though.. downtown Vancouver is nice like that. The commando soles definitely help.

What cigar cap toe boot?

Alden DC has a 6 or 7 person deep waiting list for a Cigar cap toe on Grant.

From Alden DC.  Should be dropping in a month or two.  Holding out hope that they fill the number of orders that they're supposed to so I can finally pick up this boot.  Fourth in line with four pairs of 8.5D scheduled for production.  Fingers crossed!

Its an awesome choice. I went back and forth for weeks about picking it up because I have a snuff suede wingtip already on commando. I finally buckled though and ordered them. I should get in the next day or two. I do worry slightly though because my size was originally out of stock and someone returned. Just crossing my fingers that a defect of some sort wasnt the reasoning and its more related to sizing.

Anyways congrats on the purchase!

Friends, I was in Boston for the marathon over the weekend and brought some Saphir Cordovan Cream along for the ride just in case (one can never be too safe). I had it in the side of a weekender bag which was put under my seat. When I arrived home the glass had shattered and the cream was everywhere. Not the end of the world as the only other things in there were some cloths for buffing but a heads up if you are flying with the stuff, be careful!!
