PSA: Denim bar is having an Easter sale. 25% off.
This should include Alden's as I purchased a pair with the discount last week.
Called and they should have just gotten in a batch of suede PTBs in snuff, tan, and navy.
There are probably a couple other makeups, but you'll have to call and ask as they have taken them down on the site.

No brass hardware and no speed hooks, and the dark chocolate indy would have been the perfect boot.

I've made that comment before about brass on dark suede, but with the antique edge and the color of the vamp thread on that Indy, I think it works.

They seemed to have pulled Aldens from their site.

You can call or email them to ask about availability.

I agree with you ... thankfully, the reverse welt beefs it up a little bit ... imagine the added imbalance with a flat welt matched to the single flex sole.

They are very, very similar?

This may not be a popular sentiment on SF, but Allen Edmonds are the Chrysler of shoes to me: they look good from a distance, but upon closer inspection, they only have the illusion of quality and style compared to Aldens. The material, burnishing, and designs are just not as good as Alden. Also, I feel that Allen Edmonds fall apart easier.

So, using the same car analogy, does it make sense to own a Mercedes (Alden) and a Chrysler (Allen Edmonds) in essentially the same car class? I don't think so, unless you are trying to minimize the miles on your Mercedes.

Owning both, I would say your analogy is valid, but slightly unbalanced. I would have to say that AE versus Alden is more akin to VW versus Audi. Both respectable well made German cars.

The Q7 (Alden LWB) is only slightly higher end than the Toureg (AE MacNeil).

edit: (p.s. AE makes shoes in DR also similar to VW assembling some in Mexico)

AE = Ford

Alden = Lincoln

Let's stay in America, people . . . :D

P.S. Carmina = Lexus

I don't find the value in Lincoln, but sure if you want to keep it in the USA.

AE is a humongous porcupine, while Alden is clearly a savory polka-dotted turnip and Carmina a 7-volume discourse on the collected works of Gogol. Duh. Case closed.

Here is what they had before, now they have added the suede Dovers as mentioned by justuhgeek. The snuff dover has been on my list for a while, I will have to wait for another sale though.

This is a pretty vivid analogy.
