Tom's #4-black shell saddles (you can drool, but not buy)

Great post DV.

I, one day, hope to make it out there for a visit. Hopefully soon. I know I have a problem when I schedule a trip halfway across the world because I want to visit a shoe store.

It is sad however to hear they only have one pair of shell there. a place that was once the pinnacle of Alden shell offerings.

There is not much i wouldn't do for those saddles. Those and the 4x4 are tops when it come to #4

IMO, it's intended to hold only a few cards. I purchased the NY to use when I wear snugger raw jeans (don't laugh too much) out at night, so that I can carry just my DL and about one or two cards - that's it. I think this wallet will be great for that in either my front or back pocket.

Now, if you have let’s say more than four or five cards that you routinely carry (like I do daily), there is no way that I would or could stuff all of those into the NY.  I just put seven cards into the card slot and it's an extremely tight fit. Granted, the leather will stretch and mold some, but I don't think I will use this for seven cards.

I looked at the specs of Tony the Ant, and I believe that wallet or one of the larger bifolds would be much better for five or more cards. Those would allow you to distribute the seven or eight cards pretty evenly among the four card slots.

So, IMO, if you want to routinely carry five or more cards, I would go with something else.  Otherwise, if you just want to carry a few cards, then the NY will be perfect!  It’s exactly what I was looking for, but I will purchase a larger Ashland bifold for my daily wallet when I’m ready to grab another large bifold.

Thank you - sounds too small for what i need, although you did say you managed to fit 7 cards... Hmm...

Here you go.  Pretty stuffed (and as you can see the cards are bending), but it will stretch out over time of course.  I took two cards out (down to five), and that made a big difference.  It's all a matter of what you prefer I guess.  I might as well have gotten a larger bifold if I wanted it this stuffed and bulky.  JMO.

Whenever we go to Maui I make sure to schedule a few nights in Honolulu on the way back so I can hit up LS.

I know there're tons of Denim threads but will like to hear Alden guys opinions , I've narrowed down my choices to APC or Unbranded for my 1st raw denim , I'd like to buy a 3sixteen later but for now don't want to spend more than $150 , I can get an APC for about $148 so difference between unbranded and APC is about 60.

Is the price difference worth it? Or are the Unbranded decent quality?

Also I'll wash them , I'm not into the don't wash it , at least not yet.

Sorry for the off topic question but since I'll wear them with Aldens and lots of you guys here wear raw Denim , I'll like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks.

Honestly I find Unbranded to be unreal for the price point. I am on my second pair now, first lasted about a year. The denim is of lower quality compared to higher end brands but I found the construction to be very well done. APC will be slightly better denim but similar construction imo. I would really like to try out Gustin as I have heard that the slim similar cut to the 201 but they give you some denim selection which is a nice upgrade for not much extra $.

For me it comes down to fit no matter what I wear and the 201 Unbranded fits me like a dream at the moment.

My denim qualifications (lol) include: Kicking Mule Workshop, PBJ, Samurai (the 710xx is an amazing cut), Roy, Unbranded, Nudie

Tom's #4-black shell saddles (you can drool, but not buy)

I was there almost exactly one year ago. They had almost no shell at that time too.

I expect most of their Shell makeups are sold long before hitting the store so no leftover stock for the shelves....

Try Gustin. I know you wanted an opinion between APC and Unbranded, but in my experience the former is overpriced and the latter isn't all that special (it's N&F's less expensive Urban Outfitters style, right?).

Wow! Where and when did you get those? I love cigar.

Cigar SW and Ravello LWB or Indy/NST boot. Color 8 Dover.

That's my shell agenda.

I'd try Gustin or Epaulet's jeans before Unbranded or APC.

I have an Unbranded shirt that I'm not really happy with, isn't wearing in very well.  Have seen the jeans in stores and I'm sure they're fine but have heard more positive reviews in re the Gustin or Epaulet jeans.  APC reviews I've seen are generally OK but not great, of course that could just be the sample I've seen.

Be wary though, all of those are 'gateway jeans' especially for someone willing to buy some of the best shoes out there, there's a good chance you'll probably end up getting into some of the really high-end denim brands like Strike Gold or Roy.  Enjoy whatever you get!
