I have Leffot's Tankers in Color 8 and Alden DC Cigar captoes coming soon. I also have J Crew Color 8 captoe boots that are scheduled to be shipped in early May that I got for 20% off.

Trying to decide if I really need J Crew captoes...

Hmmmm That's a tough one. It depends on how many casual #8 boots you'd like. I say casual because I feel the DC boots on Grant are a bit dressier than the NST and PCT boots.

Personally, I have the #8 NST and the #8 straight tip boot on Grant. For me, the tanker satisfies all my casual shell boot needs. I won't add anymore casual shell boots.

I really don't think the cap toe on grant is significantly dressier than the J crew Perf Cap Toe Boots.  With 270', flat welt the J Crew boot is pretty versatile; casual and can be dressed up.  The perforated cap is a unique make-up.

I'd say that if you are a boot man, I'd keep all three.  Otherwise, you need to decide which of the three you would wear most frequently.  A couple of days ago I was inches from pulling the trigger on the color 8 tankers from Context.  I decided however, that as one who does NOT wear boots very often, I wouldn't put them to much use.  The J Crew boot which I've owned for about two years, fills that need plenty for me.  I'll wait for something else.  Good luck to you my friend...

One of may favorites, Don. An awesome all-around boot, particularly in black.

I own these and black wingtip boots from TSM. I wear both pairs very often. I'm as guilty as the next guy of chasing rare shell, but so many nice black shell models are almost always available and deserve more consideration.

Thank you RTP, I've decided to make room for all three incoming models (J Crew #8 PCT, Leffot #8 Tankers and DC cigar captoes). I can see myself wearing all three in rotation with Carmina and Vibergs. I just hope that #8 Tankers and cigar captoe don't come at the same time happy.gif

I typically wear the Cape Cod series in a 9.5D so I don't have any experience in the Barrie or TruBalance last.  I just purchased a beautiful VTip in the Leydon last in size 9.5D and a NST in Aberdeen last in 9.5D.  Both were tight.  My casual shoes I wear a 10D.  Thought I would be safe with 9.5D with these.  The TruBalance are HUGE.  I'm not sure a 9D will fit.  The Barrie last is close so a 9D will be right on if not a little snug.  Guess I was wishful thinking!

None that I can see.  They are fantastic looking!

I can't tell the difference between a Dover and a PTB. Is the Dover toe sleeker and more upturned?

The Dovers have the piece of leather that the eyelets are in that extends in an arc down to the welt.

Thanks to all of you, I now have an unhealthy addiction to horse's ass.

I can only stare in awe eek.gif at mdubs incredible collection, and I don't know whether to be inspired or scared by what he was able to amass in one year.
