A suede plain toe might work. I don't like them on me as my feet look kinda big sockless with bluchers and shorts. I usually wear LHS or canvas … espadrilles, keds or purcells with shorts.

My go to summer shoes are tan or navy unlined dovers (sockless or with loafer socks). Navy tassels have also worked for me.

Suede PTB work, especially tan. If you can though, for spring/summer, it's probably best to find some sort of loafers, moccasins, or bluchers/boat shoes like Quoddy. My spring/summer casual footwear look is Alden LHS / Yuketen and Quoddy camp mocs. Moccasins will be forgiving when it comes to sizing, so try a pair

I would love a navy shell or CXL LHS! Sexy.

Hi tifosi,

How about some suede unlined chukkas? They are easily worn casually or dressed up with a linen shirt when paired with shorts. I've been giving some thought to trying to work in my brown cxl chukkas as well. Last year, I got lots of compliments whenever I wore my suede lwbs with shorts and a grey tshirt. Now that I think of it, why not try a white buck or white lwb (see, e.g., Leffot's white nubuck lwb)?

Good luck!

Thanks for the input so far, all. I have one pair of Rancourt loafers that just don't fit me sockless anymore. I was thinking of going with ranger mocc or something. Maybe I should save myself some loot and just stick with the couple pair of NewBalance 1300s I have or something.

Honestly, I would make it a priority to find some good footwear that work with shorts. Shorts can look frumpy when worn with sneakers - adding a nice belt and some good shoes to shorts elevates the entire look. As mentioned by others, suede PTB or chukka can work from the Alden world, and CXL/suede bluchers from Quoddy, Yuketen, OSB, whatever can also work.

Thanks for the heads-up, WTG--these are my size. Any obvious issues with them that you might have spotted?

So tell me what size are you in shell Jefferson versus shell LWB?

Also I find that I need to go down a width in AE shell versus AE calf. Do you find that to be the case with Alden as well?

For what it's worth, I am a 10.5D in shell Jeffersons (I have brown) and size 10D on Barrie shell LWBs.

Mike, I'd be curious how you keep the edges of your shoes looking so nice. Mine always seem to get beat up more than other parts of my shoes.

That's easy. @mdubs has so many shoes that he only wears each pair for about an hour a day and it takes 6 months to rotate back to them...

Need some opinion gents,

I have Leffot's Tankers in Color 8 and Alden DC Cigar captoes coming soon. I also have J Crew Color 8 captoe boots that are scheduled to be shipped in early May that I got for 20% off.

Trying to decide if I really need J Crew captoes...

^ Totally depends on whom you ask.  Many on this thread would say that these makeups are different enough that you need all 3.  My personal opinion is that there is a good deal of redundancy here.  I'm tying to keep my Alden collection to around 20 pairs, so that's my rationale.  Those who seen an ideal collection at 30+ would likely tell you to get the J Crew pair as well.

Hmmmm That's a tough one. It depends on how many casual #8 boots you'd like. I say casual because I feel the DC boots on Grant are a bit dressier than the NST and PCT boots.

Personally, I have the #8 NST and the #8 straight tip boot on Grant. For me, the tanker satisfies all my casual shell boot needs. I won't add anymore casual shell boots.

thanks beebs, I see where you are coming from. J Crew captoes have leather soles and can really be used during warmer weather as well + @$533 it's a good buy.
