However, adding the second, third, fourth, sixth (or whatever) color 8 boot makes incrementally less sense as the prices and resale values go up.

Agree, with Skoat pricing on EG, it's making the price of Alden harder to stomach. Curious what pricing on gmto Nevis would be, I wanted one but opted to have St Crispin make a similar boot.

I have owned a Cambridge in both Black and Burgundy and sold my Burgundy for the 974 and need to sell my Black, because I just got the Alden for Brooks Brothers Wingtip (similar to plaza last, typically a tts shoe). The 974 is not quite as sleek as the Cambridge, but it has a nicer feel to it and I love Alden's shell treatment. I can post pics of the 974 and Cambridge soon.

Here is the generic sizing chart. Remember that people's feet fill shoes differently and this isn't gospel.

Thanks the chart is definitely helpful! Can you elaborate on the "nicer feel" comment? I do have AE shell in burgundy and brown, but no Alden shell, so I don't have anything to compare to when it comes to treatment.

Thanks again.

Excellent! Looking forward to seeing them!

I saw Leffot at one time was selling Dovers in shell. I assume that was exclusive to them since I haven't seen them anywhere else.

Both Alden DC and Leather Soul carries them as well sans antique edge.

Edit: I think Leather Soul carried them at one time, but I don't think they're in stock anymore.  Sorry, I was thinking of the CXL version.

Allen Edmonds Cappuccino Shell vs Alden Cigar Shell

AE Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Alden Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I get a pair of AE brown shell this week. Sold all my Burgundy Shell. So I can't compare that anymore. :-( I had to brush the Cappuccino to get a shine out of it.

Alden Shell typically has a deeper, richer quality to it as they apply additional finish to their shoes. AE's don't have the same finish.

The Color 8 Dovers are Leffot unique as I can tell. I just managed to pick them up as seconds. The Brown CXL are now an Alden regular model.

Hard to tell from those pictures. What I do see is that your Jefferson's look more plasticky but also seem brand new there compared to your LWB's which appear to have been lived in a bit more. My burgundy shell Daltons don't have that artifical look to them, but my brown shell Patriots do. I think they just need some sun.

Getting ready to return two pair of Alden irregular boots to TSM.  Both are size 9.5D.  One is the 403 Indie boot in Brown Chrome Excel on the TruBalance last.  The other is a plain toe in Brown Chrome Excel as well on the Barrie last model 45132-HC.  Both pair are 1/2 size too big for me.  They were a fantastic deal - they are just too big.  TSM sold them for $325 each.  Just in case anyone is in the market for a great deal on these boots I'm only try to give a heads up that TSM should have these irregulars back in stock in a week or so...

That's nice of you. Shame they didn't work out!

Sorry, these were the pictures that I was looking for!!! The Jeffersons look a lot flatter... Before massive amounts of brushing.

Love those Cigar LWBs, Mike! I particularly like when the shades of Cigar are varied on different pieces of shell on the same shoe.

Thank you! I really love in-shoe variation (to a tasteful degree)... But many do not appreciate the character it adds.

I don't know about making these beaters. The greasy black suede is popular in Europe at the moment. Brown's has a pair of Alden Indys in Earth chamois for almost $1k! These are great when paired with grays and blacks.
