Hmmm. Interesting. Now I'm curious to look at mine later. I would imagine it would just be a function of either the cordovan or the dyeing process.
They are in fact black inside as you describe. I have the same shoe and noticed the same thing when I first received them more than a year ago. No big deal... enjoy them my friend, often and in great health!

Respectfully disagree. I have both sw bluchers and bals. I reach for the classic American model 9 times out of 10 (LWB). But I suppose that may be just me.

Am I alone in preferring shortwings to longwings across the board? Of all the cordovan wingtips I have owned, my three favorites are the Ralph Lauren Marlows, my Brooks Brothers wingtip bals and the Leather Soul black cordovan shortwing bluchers (which I sold due to sizing).
@Alcibiades

I'm with you on the Shortwings--CJ Marlows, 974, and counting...

and @mdubs
 +1 on balmorals SW

Other than the Marlow's, and of course MrDV's boots, I prefer longwings.

As it is not shell, perhaps we would have a chance to do a similar makeup stateside. Has anyone tried this angle with any US shop, and would anyone be on board?

I could see this being really amazing with no speed hooks, and darker edging. Actually, I could see it being awesome in a cap toe, like the Alfred Sargent x J. Crew boot.

J.Gilbert had a very similar makeup in navy suede last fall.

Got the 975s from J Crew.  Really fantastic. A funny quirk about the barrie last. I originally ordered a 9d since I have 2 calf aldens on the barrie last that fit me fine.  However, the 9d in the 975 was too big. My heel would slip out.  So I went with the 8.5d and all is well.

Also, you cant see the metal eyelets in the underside of the quarters.  Are they sandwiched between the leather? (I think) all my nice shoes have the metal eyelets. If not visible, at least underneath.  No eyelets in shell?

A minor quibble: there was a couple of places where the brougueing wasn't punched out. I removed the punchholes with a pin. There is newish looking leather in the hole and I'll let dirt fill it in and color it dark.

Can't wait to wear these :nodding:

Looking forward to owning this boot one fine day.

You'll have an easier time finding a woman with three tits.

^^ Nope. Can't see the eyelets in my LWBs, either.

If I had to choose, I think I'd give the edge to SWs over LWs.

Initially they were very very pale and flat and I wasn't too happy with the look. So I covered it in brown Saphir codovan creme with a dauber, let it dry, and buffed it with a soft cloth. This darkened it a bit and also darkened the brogue holes and stitching which I think looks better.
Your shoes look great. Nice color, I think you would like ravello as well.

The metal taps Nick installs are flush with the sole; not so with plastic taps. I would be more worried about the nails holding plastic taps damaging my floors. Flush taps do no damage... (except to the wallet).

When they do flush metal taps is the sole sanded down at all? I'm a little more inclined to go with plastic taps and replace them when they wear out.

Good catch! So close! Why do they always have to ruin nice things with plantation crepe soles?

All, just an FYI so that anyone who may have been interested gets first-crack.  I got my TSM seconds today -- black cordovan PTBs in a 10E -- but I think I'm sending them back.  It's not that the seconds aspect is bad, as that's just a small mark on the vamp; it's more that I'm not convinced these are the right size, and I don't think I want this to be my pair of black shoes.  So if anyone wanted these and missed out, just let me know.  Otherwise they're headed back to TSM.

Yes, they do! @MrDV any lacing tips?
