Hmm, I see. I had to sell my 8.5D cigar Atoms from Leffot on Tremont since I was not too happy about the fit. I asked Kathy about 9D but none was available.

The following picture shows when the acrylic finisher was still wet.
In liquid form, the finisher is milky white. Transparent when dry. I used a small brush, the application was not even.

When the finisher was dried, in subdued light.

I tested a couple different acrylic finishers locally, found Angelus giving the closest "simulation" of the real thing.
Then I re-glzed both boots entirely. This time, using a cotton rug to give a more even coat.
Once the finisher was dried, I used a little paste wax to darken the hand sewn stitches.

For those who are curious, I did some experiments on scrap leather before messing with the tankers.

I did spend some time on the subject of acrylic finishers.
It turns out this stuff has pretty widespread use in shoemaking, repair and leatherwork in general. But apparently, only Alden uses it on shell.
BTW, some manufacturers use shellac, while others use paste wax alone.

Thank you.  This is fascinating.

Anyhow, while I haven't worn them outside, I have worn them around the house some and as a result they're a little creased.  My question is, would TSM take them back in their current condition?  I know I can probably just send them in and worst case scenario they would just return them to me, but I thought I'd run some photos by y'all first:

Some may find this a parochial viewpoint, but those are used shoes.   Period.  Shoe Mart may take them back for client relations.  I think it inappropriate to ask.

You can certainly find a buyer here, albeit at whatever discount a buyer which should not be significant given the very limited wear they have seen.

I agree. The fact that a few months have passed is also telling. TSM has no doubt marked their books to reflect a "final sale".

Sweet Wingtips. Looks like the first two are the Brooks Bros and then you switched it up on the last one going with the Wingtip boot!

FWIW, TSM has a 90-day return window, and these are within that window.

MTC, great post. Giving me something to think about for sure. I got a guy on each shoulder whispering into my ear, one on the left saying, leave them, the other saying, strip off that finish. If the finish didn't have a dingy weird gray-washed out appearance and have brush lines I would probably listen more to the guy on my left. :-/ On travel for two weeks, so I have some time to contemplate.

Yes, but I don't think they can sell those as new. I wouldn't be happy if I bought them from TSM and that's how they looked when I opened the box.
