even with the $45 price increase, the current 30% off ends up being a slightly better deal than the 20% off $600 sale of a few weeks ago. if only it was 30% off the old $600 price...

i hate that i get these "what ifs" with regards to deals stuck in my head:facepalm:

J Crew sales seem to be the best way to pick up  the 975. It's too bad they do not ship to Canada and also do not have a 7.5D

Coupon only works with 975 and straight tips , limited sizes.

Good luck.

Thanks tifosi

Considering the cost and return policy after worn makes my decision tuff, but they feel so good wearing them with thicker socks makes me think that’s how they should be worn.

I actually didn’t buy them to wear as a dress shoe… My intentions was to wear Indy's instead of my typical Jordan’s

They should fit you with whatever you're planning on wearing with them - sockless, dress socks, tube socks, etc. I wear mine with slightly thicker socks and they fit me perfectly. Obviously if I wore them sockless or with dress socks, they wouldn't fit the same.

Nice. Normally I'd be all over something like this but I am not making any new purchases for at least the remainder of this year.

Here's another what-if. I missed the original 20% off of $600. Had them in my cart and they were gone when I went to pay. I called j crew and the rep was nice enough to honor the price and discount when they restocked. Called them on Monday and they had my size. They honored the original price and discount. She then offered another 20% off if I opened up a jcrew card. $384 before tax.

So difficult finding Alden's in a 12.5D. Do you guys think I could work a 13D with insole and tongue pad? Potentially much easier to find 13D's.

Whiskey shell shortwings at Alden DC are going fast.  Remaining sizes are 8.5, 10.5, 11.5, and 12 (all D).  Get 'em while they're hot!

Edit: Tremont last.

There are some who will tell you to absolutely never compromise on fit by resorting to insoles, tongue pads, etc.  However for me, I use insoles in every single boot I wear.  I intentionally size my boots that way and have different insoles for different boots.  I have bony feet (not much padding on the soles of my feet) and so boots with the typical leather sock liner (not Poron or foam) are just too hard for my sensitive feet.

It's all a question of whether you can attain a good, comfortable fit with an insole.  If you can (as I have), then I'd say that expands your opportunities.  You could conduct an experiment and give it a try and see how it works for you.

I had them both. I wear an 8.5D in the Alden Berrie and a 9D in the AE Leeds in Shell. I ended up selling the Leeds because they were a little tight. Prolly should have been an E in the Leeds.

The snuff suede Dovers are on their way to me from Unionmade, and they should arrive today. Curious about where you suede Dover owners stand on treating vs. not treating. I've never treated a pair of suede shoes before (but I've never had Aldens), and I generally love the character they take on with time. And if any of you have pictures of yours, I'd love to see. Thanks!

That was a nice lunch break surprise, cross the 10.5D off that list...

Cheers,
