Yea if you were quicker to the keyboard than Sazon you might have had some new shoes!

It's funny because I have been thinking about reducing my Alden collection a bit more today, too. I am left with Whiskey LWB, Leffot #8 LWB, Leffot Tankers, #8 shell straight tip boots and Brown CXL Dovers. I think the Whiskeys are untouchable, but other than that I dunno. I have the brown CXL Tankers on "pre-order" at LS, but delivery is sometime this century.

lol, I think so.

I also think it was a good move for Bkotsko to keep those. I will wait for Leffot's pre-order happy.gif

What are you considering offloading?  I've been going around in my head about which shoes I really want versus "need."  Of course I don't need any Aldens...

I don't know. That's the problem. I have this 10 shoe rotation and some don't even get worn once every two weeks. So I'm in the middle of justifying my current method vs. my old method of like 3 workhorse shoes before I found this site.

My problem is that footwear for me is highly seasonal and very different for work/casual.

For example, I went months without wearing my whiskey PTB or ravello LWB. I wore the ravello LWB this past weekend and will wear them often from now until fall. But they don't get worn after. Similarly, I wore basically all of my boots heavily from fall through now, but they will be retired soon except for a few pair. Now, loafers and suede will get more wear.

You are right about the difference in construction. The Alden's use a goodyear welt, whereas the Rancourt's use moccasin construction.

Gotcha. I am at work. So I didn't go crazy with their custom menu at all. :-)

All of my shoes (besides my 2 bals) get worn for work and casually. I haven't considered seasons, yet. Basically all I have is shell bluchers and 1 shell bal, so nothing really seasonal besides boots.

Which of the shoes/boots you listed before do you wear the most?  Honestly asking out of curiosity.

I battle with whether some rare shell options are really worth it.  For example, when I heard whiskey LHS were available at Alden SF I got all excited about the potential of owning a pair.  When I learned they didn't have a pair in my size I was equally bummed and relieved.  I want a pair, but then I worry they won't get as much wear once they're on my rack.

The best way to control your Alden collection is to buy fewer of them going forward. For example once you start buying loafers, suede, etc, those are harder to sell as they get worn quite a bit and tend to have lower resale value anyway. I could sell all of my boots at very small losses, but boots were indispensable this past winter.

Historically, my rare shell models have been my least worn. I've sold quite a few in whiskey and cigar. But some rare models are versatile and would get a ton of wear. The whiskey LHS is one of them as light/tan loafers are a classic. I'm actively looking for a pair in my size even as I have sold other whiskey models (chukka, wingtip bal, Indy, NST).

I know. I don't wear my Whiskey LWB all that much. It's not because they don't pair well with my wardrobe, either. They are just gorgeous and even though they are worn the least I don't think I could part with them. I basiccally think I would get by with the Whiskey LWB, #8 LWB and my Tankers. But then I think that I have a shell, #8 SWB that I wear to work and I don't wear the #8 LWB casually all that much. I mainly wear them to work.

Yeah, the LHS (and maybe LWB) are the only models that I could pull off - and only casually.  My more conservative wardrobe really matches #8 the best.  I'm always impressed with those that can pull of whiskey in a more formal atmosphere.

I agree that your whiskey LWB are awesome.  I'd have a difficult time parting with them as well...but if you ever decide you want to...

Thanks, thams. You'll be the first person I contact. But I wouldn't get your hopes up! haha!

Maybe I'll start with the 4060's and the CXL Dovers, but I'm not sure if selling the dovers will be [financially] worth it.

(Sorry if this is a dupe; I'm x-posting from PSA thread to make sure the Alden fans are aware)

O'Connells Clothing is having a big 30% off Alden this week, and ups to 40% off next week. Unfortunately there's nothing that I need, but there's more than enough models avail that I would think somebody could use it:
