Thanks for sharing your experience, NYDRH! Your post made me realize that I can sometimes write tactlessly. I didn't mean to disrespect the cadet; after all, it's simplicity and elegance was a strong motivating factor in my impulse buy. I'm glad you're enjoying your pair. Were you the fellow that wore the cadet to his son's high school graduation last summer? If not, it's a clear sign my memory is failing due to overwork.

Doc, no worries I definitely didn't read it as such just wanted to provide an alternative perspective on that particular model.  Not to further the fears of memory loss, but definitely wasn't me, my Alden lineup would be considerably smaller if I had to cover the expense of high school aged kids or any kids for that matter.

Im actually really surprised they are still available.  Ive seen a few recent sales on B&S that I would not have been able to resist had they been within 1/2 of my size.

yea, I already have the kirkwood in 10D, otherwise I'd be considering if my foot could squeeze into a 9E....

Hi all,

Well I've got my first pair of Aldens but I'm afraid I ordered the wrong size! I'd been fitted on the TruBalance last a 10D which is the size I ordered my Unlined PTB in chromexcel in. They felt OK when I first put them on but I'm getting toe bulge. Based on the below pics, can anyone help me size accurately? Would a 10.5D be good or do I need 10.5E? Could a cobbler stretch these to make them work? They're not really uncomfortable (at this point) so much as unsightly. You can see where my big toe ends in a couple of these.

Thank you all so, so much for any and all help!

I've had toe bulge issues with a few CXL models, even those that were sized correctly, due to the leather being so soft. You should consider an E width.

Thanks for your feedback! Do you think I should also move up to a 10.5? Again my big toe ends about a thumb width, or slightly less, from the end of the shoe. And any idea if a cobbler can work some magic on these? The leather is indeed insanely soft.

Thanks again!

You should be able to have them stretched by an experienced cobbler. I would try going out a width before moving up an additional size

Yeah, you don't appear to need any more length - the width is the issue there.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

While the pair must feel like slippers ... an attribute of CXL ... they do not complement your feet (I had the same experience with D-width Trubalance/CXL).

I would also recommend a wider pair ... but be prepared to also accommodate a wider heel pocket and higher forefoot volume with tongue pads and insoles.
