Nice! I just got the same shoes as my first pair of Alden's. I tested out my size with the 975 and thought I was set with 6.5D. Trying on the natty cxl ptbs, I feel like I should go down half a size. Ball of my feet feels right though. Thoughts?

The Horween blog posted some pics from inside the Alden factory:

And the "H" in LHS really does stand for handsewn. I remember reading that all of the LHS are stitched by one of three ladies, so here is one of them in action:

From BlackBird no?

I should have scooped a pair when i had the chance.
Thanks blue. These are "hayburner" saddles from blackbird. I'm still learning how to incorporate black shoes into my rotation.

That's great news. I'll add lemon juice to my shoe care kit.

I absolutely love that woman. She had me at hello. I don't care if my wife finds my iPad and reads this later.

I wonder if a 6E would work for you, if that is where the end of your toe is it seems like you have some room still.

The end of my big toe is at the middle of my finger in this pic. I went with a 7.5D as it was the size that felt correct in the 990 I was able to try on in person. The heel has a slight amount of room on the right shoe, it doesn't slip when I walk but can feel it not holding snug when I am sitting. Almost like my heel needs to sink down more but I don't think it will as my pair is second hand, I'm not sure how much more break in they will have.  I don't know if I could size down with any luck as the shoe seems to fit perfectly otherwise. For reference I measure around an 8.25 on the Brannock. I also have a low instep and narrow heels compared to the ball of my feet, some lasts have been tricky for me.

Yeah unfortunately to my dismay, that's what I thought as soon as I put them on.

Any reason why you're suggesting also going wider in addition to half a size down? I figured I'd just go down half a size to 6D.

If I were Alden, I'd tell those three women that they're forbidden to be on the same airplane at the same time!

You could try both a 6D and 6E, I only suggested the wider as you mentioned the ball of the foot fitting well already in the 6.5D. The size down would make that tighter so figured the width up might keep it so that you don't end up too tight in the toes.

Good luck finding the right fit!

2. Dover

I have the chukkas in snuff and those exact same Dovers. For shorts, I'd definitely go with the Dover.

Well, I messed up. Just noticed that I pre-ordered The Alden x Leffot Greenwich Boot in size 9d instead of 9.5d. I'm thinking of keeping the 9d and seeing if I they'll fit. Too late to change my size. I'm pretty upset but hoping they fit!

Picked these up today.

What is everyone's pre-treatment advice for Natural Chromexcel?

TIA.

CXL is pretty resilient. You don't have to worry about water or getting spots like with cordovan. So you don't have to do anything. Personally, I apply a light layer of Venetian cream. Bam. You are done.
