Kidding, BTW.

they would look good on a construction site .. which I believe is where Harrison Ford wore those dirty beat to shit boots before he used them in a motion picture .. lol

LOL. I was drawn to the shell version because I'm obsessed with hand stitched toes (on shoes if Tampa is reading this). But I ultimately do not like the trubalance last all that much.

I can't help you there since I got both. Well a CXL and a tan suede anyways. The reason I didn't get snuff suede Dover is because I have the snuff suede chukkas.

There you go! Excellent advice.

I ordered the chamois captoe boots from TSM that someone mentioned were on sale last week. I called today to see what was going on with my package since the tracking hadn't been updated in 3 days. They checked with the warehouse and called me back to say they never shipped it since they could not find the shoe. That it must have been an inventory error so they have to cancel the order. :(

Definitely not the first time. That sucks. Sorry.

Antiquated website that makes you click on every option only to get the out of stock message. A seconds list that does not actually exist as when you call to purchase said shoes/boots you are told it was listed in error. If you need a stock shoe no problem but beyond that ehhh.....anyone heard anything on jgilbert 6 eyelet chukka in #8

I'm sorry this happened to you. Again, maybe you're building karma toward a grail acquisition. Here's to them calling you with a ravello brixton in your size as a consolation :)

Alden must hate me today. The CXL chukkas came in but there's 1 nail on the heel of the right shoe that is sticking out. Is this something any decent cobbler should be able to nail in ir should I send them back? I can't wear them like this otherwise I'll be scratching up every floor I walk on.

i also pre-ordered the ultimate indy - really wanted some new cxl indys, but am not a fan of the cork sole. i just hope to get the ultimate indys sometime before this time next year, even though LS quoted Q4 2014 for the last run.

that's precisely why i didn't order the boot from Leffot.  who gives a shit if it's on commando sole if I'm not getting it before summer.  cancel the order and buy the neocork version.  it's 90% as good and available immediately, with no hassle from TSM.

speaking of which, only moronic retailers have pre-orders for boots in the dead of winter.  do your pre-orders in spring/summer so people can get the boots when they need them.  i can understand defending this decision in discussing rare shell, where it can take many seasons/years to receive boots, but for an estimable 12-16 week timeframe?  please.

If you have a tack hammer, just pop it in.... It's only a nail.

I only have the hammer in nails in to your wall type of hammer. Didn't want to use that and end up damaging the heel. If it's a simple fix I'll swing by a shoe repair shop tomorrow during lunch.

I'm liking these way more than the Ravello shell versions I sent back a week or so ago. I know it's heresy to say that here but I really do like the look of CXL more than shell. Which works out great for my wallet since CXL is cheaper than Ravello by about 20-25%.

I've thought about protecting my non-commando soles with Montana Pitch Blend when planning on encountering inclement weather. It worked on the flex soles of my tobacco chamois wt boots during a recent snow storm. Not a lick of moisture got into the boots while shoveling and traipsing around. So yes indeedy--forget the commando on Indy for now (I never thought the commando made them so ultimate); you can always pull the BNelson switcheroo later. #save$for$hell

The LHS is awesome. I own 5 pairs (suede, calf, cigar, #8 & whiskey shell) down here in Florida, but don't expect to see a lot of Alden's down here. People wear CRRRAP for shoes down here besides @Beatlegeuse
of course!

If you're not looking replacement for a 986 - I know the Patriot from Allen Edmonds is a lovely shoe as well.

The 986 is the Gold Standard for loafers. It can be dressed up or down and will last forever. Brooks Brothers sells a version of it albeit unlined shell cordovan which some seem to prefer.

+1, don't expect to find any good shoe shopping down here and don't expect to see anyone wearing nice shoes either!
