Leffot pain toe or LS CXL NST would be a very tough choice

^^ NST! NST! NST!

You guys are no joke. Really appreciate your responses, and I'm at least 1% closer to making my decision. For those of you who have the CXL, is it still a great summer shoe?

I have them both and nothing beats the suede for spring and summer.....I wore them a ton with shorts and no socks last summer but personally would not do so with the CXL

Ooooh, tough call - EG colors (esp nutmeg and tobacco) sure do give snuff a run for its money, but I'd probably have to agree with you!

Alden Boots are GREAT! Highly recommend them!

Perhaps 405s will be next!

Thanks for sharing.  Your video scores a 4/10 on the creepy factor, due to references to loving the smell of your shoes and that little pigeon-toed dance you did.  I would place the score slightly above Mediahound, but well below the dude who wears his boots and stands in the river fondling himself.

Jokes aside, appreciate the post.  I have and love my 401s too.

Heading to Florida in a few weeks and apparently spring is on it's way (I hope), so my focus has shifted from boots to summer shoes (loafers). I assume the 986 LHS is the loafer of choice in this crowd? To be worn casually with jeans, chinos and light wool trousers. Being in Canada I have not had the opportunity to see or try it on. Are there any other manufacturers of semi traditional loafers I should be looking at? I already have the JM Weston 180 in tan so I am looking for a Color 8 or oxblood calf.

Thanks,

Jason

I apologize in advance for offending any sensibilities with this first post but I searched to my best ability and couldn't find an answer, so here goes...

I'm deciding between these two Natural Chromexcel Indys, but I'm having trouble discerning the differences between the two pairs:

Unionmade Stevenson or Indy Blucher from TSM

The only difference (my admittedly untrained eyes) can discern is in the soles. Anything I'm missing? I'll be wearing them in Chicago in some moderately inclement weather so I'd imagine the cork soles would be better?

Thanks again for any help.

anyone else pre-order the black indy on commando sole from leffot? order was confirmed in december and they're quoting 12-16 on the website (i swear it said 8-12 weeks when i pre-ordered but i am probably mistaken). hope they come before it gets too warm to wear them. but knowing alden i might be happy to get them before next fall.

i also pre-ordered the ultimate indy - really wanted some new cxl indys, but am not a fan of the cork sole. i just hope to get the ultimate indys sometime before this time next year, even though LS quoted Q4 2014 for the last run.

Spring happened here a few weeks ago in Tampa. It's almost summer down here now! (75 & Sunny) I hope you have fun while you're down here!!

The LHS is awesome. I own 5 pairs (suede, calf, cigar, #8 & whiskey shell) down here in Florida, but don't expect to see a lot of Alden's down here. People wear CRRRAP for shoes down here besides @Beatlegeuse of course!

If you're not looking replacement for a 986 - I know the Patriot from Allen Edmonds is a lovely shoe as well.

The 986 is the Gold Standard for loafers. It can be dressed up or down and will last forever. Brooks Brothers sells a version of it albeit unlined shell cordovan which some seem to prefer.

Rancourt makes some very nice, traditional, loafers at a reasonable price that may be worth a look. Their "beefroll" style in particular is one of my favorites. I have it in navy cordovan and though I didn't wear it much the first year I had it, it's gotten a lot of wear in the year since then and will probably be on my feet when I get on a plane and go to Florida in a few weeks myself.
