Do those of you that have them find they stretch to fit the foot a bit after some wearing, or am I looking at that tightness for the life of the shoe?

Thanks for the help.

I'm a 12.5D Barrie and got a great deal on unlined snuff irregular chukkas in 13D (my Brannock size). They felt tight so I returned them and bought 1st's in 13E - they are amazingly comfortable. I have since read here that many people go tts & up a width in these beauties.

Wore these today, Snuff Indy on red brick  comfortable from day one

Picture of the 6 eyes chukka. worn   They almost feel longer than the indys.  Looking forward to wearing these a lot and thru summer

Grant last was tough fit for me to figure out even when I had the luxury of trying on multiple pairs at Alden DC (rather than guessing online). If I size up 1/2 from my Barrie/TrueB size it is too long; it fits me snug, but not uncomfortable, if I wear it in my Barry/TrueB size.

Individual foot shape also has a huge impact on the overall fit of many lasts. I have one foot that's nearly a half size smaller than my other foot so I have to consider that as well. The accumulated knowledge and advice on this forum is great to get you in the ballpark with sizing, but finding the perfect fit takes trial and error.

Same here. I was lucky enough to have bought them in person at Alden DC so I got to try a number of different size combinations. I ended up with my Barrie size 8.5D. They are super comfortable but much like Namor if I spend a long day of walking in them it starts getting uncomfortable for my pinky toes. On days I know I'm going to be out walking a lot I go with my Indys or any of my Barrie lasted shoes.

My best fit is either Barrie 9.5E or Aberdeen 10E. Grant 10E and Hampton 10E are both slightly big on me, but the 9.5E sizes are too small (particularly in the width). Still I like the look of the Grant toe, particularly on captoe boots (I had a Grant 10E loafer that was too big and got sold).

Lovely color on those. 8.5D and 10D seem to dominate this thread.

I forgot to add that due to my experience with the Grant last I'm scared to try the Plaza last since I've heard it's even narrower. Can anyone with experience with both Grant and Plaza comment on if I sized up to 9D in plaza if I should be safe. My main concern is the pinky toe rubbing issue that Namor has.

I had to sell my Grant lasted cigar captoe boots in 9D from Alden DC since these were too lose on me. I wear 8.5D in Barrie and TB and 9D in Plaza.

I'm on the Kathy's list for 8.5D for the next batch though:nodding:

+1 to this. I'm a 12B Barrie and I have 2 pairs of unlined chukkas in 12.5C (tan and snuff) and they are among my best fitting shoes.

My Plaza boots look wider than my Grant boots to me eye (both 10E).

When I took a width wider, the toe resembled a barrie lasted shoe; all the sleekness of the grant slanted toe box disappeared. besides a more bulbous toe, the "e" width also feels a little too big; not only is it slightly too wide but the toe box is also a slightly taller. its kind of a shitty last to fit but is pretty to look at and is one of my favorites. if i could just have both, id probably put a ring on it

going tts on grant is also not ideal because youll have too much length resulting in excessive creasing and uneven wear

here is to looking good and feeling uncomfortable in our $700 boots cheers.gif

I've sold my plaza captoe due to same pinky situation you wrote. I could wear it but not for long time.

Thanks for the help.

My foot runs a bit wider in general, but my first pair of unlined chukkas on the Leydon were an 8D and they were unbearably tight. Leffot eventually had a run of them on "E" widths so I was able to get a new pair and the difference was night and day. Personally, I subscribe to the school of the shoe needing to fit right out of the box. I don't want to wait and hope for some potential stretching.

im guilty of grabbing a pair that *might* not be the best fit on the Grant last. but my likelihood of finding Ravello Daytrippers in 11.5E seemed it would be a challenge.

that being said, I'm happy with the fit of the 12Ds, and don't seem to notice an exaggerated length on them (on me)

Have any of you guys that have gone with the larger instead of the smaller size on the Grant last try an insole?  Superfeet makes very slim ones from what I've heard.

Tyler,

That is exactly what I do when a shoe doesn't fit me well. :-) I find insoles help a ton. I used them on my RL Marlows today.
