Next time I'm in Paris or in Tokyo, I plan to see if my budget will allow me to splurge on a shell ML boot (if they have anything that is).

Any good sources of Alden shell in Paris? Headed there in a month so I want to poke around. I know about Anatomica, but are there others? Fingers crossed I'll hit up some cigar boots on the modified last...

The only one I know about is Anatomica.  I'd be interested to know if there're others, too.

ML cigar boots would be awesome.  Good luck.

Houston is butt-ugly compared to the Mid-Atlantic region (or just about any region in the US).  They do have colored leaves there... two summers ago a drought killed many of their trees leaving the one nice park they have there, looking like it was autumn in July!

In all fairness though, Houston is a great place to live; cosmopolitan, good economy/job market, great restaurants, cheap cost of living, no state income tax, great year-round-golf, etc...  I visit my brother in Houston pretty regularly especially when Maryland is under snow/ice.

They also have a couple of retailers that sell Aldens at a pretty good price. (trying to keep this thread-relevant!)

You will like Houston if any of these characteristics appeal to you.  You'll just have to sacrifice beautiful terrain and your milder Va climate.

I don't see it online, so maybe it is coming soon?

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Alden routinely (about once a year) will do a small run (1 or 2 pairs at each size) of special make-ups for a particular shop or sometimes online.  I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case with these tankers.  Past J Crew make-ups under a small run include the ravello LWB, black shell wingtip boots, Black shell LWBs, Color 8 LWBs, snuff suede/color 8 saddles, etc...  If you're looking carefully or paying close attention here, you might be able to snag a pair.

LS has Tan Suede PT boots with crepe restock. Must be very comfortable.

^ Now over $600 for suede shipped from LS...:butbut:

I might pick up a pair of Shell 8 Cap Toe boots on the Grant last. Versus the PTB in Color 8:

Which pair is more versatile? i.e. which can I wear with formal wear but rock casually? I love Alden boots and the cap toes have a commando sole. Can I wear the boots with dress slacks as well as I could the PTB (leather sole) ?

Also considering holding out for a PTB or a LWB in Ravello...

Sounds like you're comparing the 990 and 4060CH, which are among the most versatile Aldens. You can wear both casually with jeans or chinos, or dressed up with odd trousers and a jacket (yes, the boots have a commando sole, but it's pretty low profile). Perhaps the PTBs are more versatile due to the leather sole, but they're also on the Barrie last and have a storm/split reverse (I can never remember which it is) welt, whereas the boots are on the sleeker Grant last and have a flat welt.

would grab jcrew ravello LWB from last yr (as my pair I ordered was 'lost' and they were unwilling to give a 'generous' discount for an 11D that I would have had to try and make work) if they ever came up on the resale

same shade ravello chukka on antique

#8lwb on antique or PTB on antique (I know I could grab antique LWB from fransboone right now but dont feel like eating that kinda exchange rate money)

maybe a cigar captoe or plaintoe not on crepe (prefer commando, but leather would suffice)

thats really it. everything else I have I'm happy with (and barely wear as is). unless some Modified options intrigued me. If by some miracle, Moulded could start offering shell on ML, I'd be selling quite a few models to replace with ML. but that will never happen

I'm starting to look at Carmina to fill some of holes. epaulet is doing some major things lately.

$575 is still getting up there, but with Beverly Hills back in operation, split the inventory and charge less/free ground in the CONUS. Two day air from Hawaii or the West Coast is great, but I can wait a week. Then again, it seems like most make ups sell out...so ignore my input.

There's a lot of CM side affiliates who stock Carmina. Here are some off the top of my head (most of these should be affiliates).
