Got my PTB's back from Alden restoration and all in all, I'm happy (though maybe for the wrong reason) and think they did a good job. They were whiskey when I sent them.....

Now, to quote a fellow SF'er, I don't really know what they are.......

I've never seen ravello in person but these look closer to some of the lighter ravello I've seen on this site. Given that I don't own any ravello, this isn't the worst of outcomes.

Here's a shot flanked by a couple of shots of whiskey........

Not sure what to think.......

FWIW I think they look great.  Closer to the older Ravello vs. the newer Cigar-Ravello.  I like the reddish mellow color.

They look nice but I would be furious if I sent a pair of whiskey's in and they came back that color

I need to get off my tail and get my #8 ML captoes sent in. I stripped the ever loving hell off the top of one pair, will be curious to see what alden can do to the finish

This.

While that is a unique colour and might be closer to a light ravello it is not even close to the other shoes posted, or the shade the shoes were before you sent them. I am almost certainly not sending my exotics for restoration if this is normal.

Shawn,
Thanks for posting these before-and-afters. I watched this exact same pair of shoes advertised by Morgan for quite some time. I almost pulled the trigger on multiple occasions because for the price they were a steal! Glad you got your hands on them. Yes, they are considerably different now post-restoration. Alden has blurred the lines between Ravello and Whiskey. Regardless, it is still a great looking shoe that will provide you with a lot of use.

The real downside is the increasing uncertainty of what color a shoe or boot will be after Alden factory restoration. Very disconcerting.

Just curious, how did this happen?

I hear ya. If I wasn't a little whiskey-heavy, I would probably feel the same way. But the more I look at them, the more ok I am with them. Definitely different from what I sent.

Wow, talk about a good memory you are correct, these were purchased from Morgan. Thanks for the kind words and I completely agree with your assessment. Who knows, maybe I'll feel differently tomorrow, but right now I've convinced myself that I stumbled on a pair of really nice ravello PTB's to supplement my collection of whiskey. I haven't had the Alden flu long enough to need to send any of my new shoes back but my boots would have to be really beat to hell before I sent them back to Alden. I've got a really good cobbler here in Pgh for virtually all of my shoe repairs. I only sent these in to try to correct some of the discoloration.

Appreciate the words thams and I agree with your assessment. They are definitely growing on me.
