I'm still dreaming of the Alden City Moc in CXL at Leffot which they still have in a 10.5. Their recommendation was for me to downsize but I'd like to get the crowd's input before I abandon all hope (they're not sure if they will restock and, if they do, it'll only maybe be later this year).

Since a return would only be for a credit, that's a decent chunk of change to tie up on a sizing mistake.

For Barrie laced shoes, I generally wear 9D. Barrie boots - 9D.
For Aberdeen laced shoes, I wear either 9D or 9.5D. Aberdeen boots - 9.5D.

Does anyone have any experience or an opinion on these? I want a versatile pair of chukkas that I can wear in any weather so I'm leaning towards a commando sole. I found the 1272S which is described as chukka boot, barrie last, lug sole, brown kudu. Is this just the standard 2 eyelet chukka? If so, why is it a bit cheaper than most of the other Alden chukkas? Does it have to do with the 'kudu' (not really sure what that is)?

It may be related to the lug sole versus a leather/commando sole.

I know there are CXL PTBs with a lug sole that are $75 less then their nearly identical counterpart on commando sole at the theshoemart.com

I'm wearing my Kudu Indy's with lug sole today.  They rock in bad weather.  IMHO Kudu and lug soles in a Chukka, Indy, or PTB are a great inclement weather option.  Very comfortable from day one.  The lug sole is probably the most durable wet weather option, specially with traction on snow/ice.  I have Commando sole and like them, but on the worst weather days rain, sleet, snow, ice...I turn to my Kudu's with lugs.

See Ya,

Steve

But when it comes time to resoling them, I can still get them resoled with whatever I want right?

It seems that Alden SF and O'connells both have them in my size at the same price. Is there any reason to order from one place over the other? I was going to go with O'Connells just because shipping is $7 and they're on the east coast so it would be cheaper for me to ship back to them if I had to return for any reason.

O'Connell's is an amazing store.  Go with them, and you will not be disappointed; they provide great customer service, and are great guys.  Cheers.
