Been reading this thread a while and am on the verge of making a purchase, but can't decide what shoe to get. I was hoping for some recommendations based on what I own already.
Currently have black AE Park Avenues, brown Tricker's shortwings with Dainite soles and black C&J for BB monks.
Want to get a pair that will go well in a stricter business casual office (generally dark wool pants, standard shirts and occasional sport coats) as well as casual attire (jeans). Was initially leaning toward a brown pair of bluchers (specifically ravello PTBs) but now reconsidering. Open to black or brown, shoes or boots - just not looking for any split toe/NST or anything that will be too redundant with what I have given the small collection.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

#8 LWB.

Just caved and reserved the LS #8 jumpers. Bit disappointed they didn't order E / it's not black but it's a boot I've been wanting for a long time
Could you provide a link with info? Haven't managed to google anything

I'd go with color 8 for sure, and then choose between ptb and lwb. Both are iconic and match everything.

I really don't like the larger lasts from Alden (Barrie, Trubalance etc) and have noticed that they are the norm. I read that Alden MTO is no longer possible too (is this true?).

The only place I have found that regularly sells Aldens on the more narrow lasts is Leather Soul but they sell out quickly and usually only have a few styles available at once.

Are there any other retailers or way I can find or have made Aldens with narrow lasts?

Would absolutely love to get a LWB #8, cap toe boot in #8, cigar boot in #8, practically any cordovan boot or wingtip in a narrow last really..

A man after my own heart. I agree with you 100%. Best chance to get a narrow last or narrow width is to pre-order when Leffot, Alden DC, leathersoul, the shoe Mart, etc are just placing orders with Alden. A narrow lasted Barrie or trubalance looks and feels more refined even on a casual style like the indy. I've been able to get a 11.5c Barrie Ravello wingtip boot from tsm and a 12B cigar Indy from Leffot. Both fit a lot like an Aberdeen lasted boot in 12D Aberdeen 12D on left. 12B Cigar Indy on right

Email Leather Soul
New jumpers are barrie lasted as well with double waterlock sole. Prefer the pull tabs and all eyelets

Are sure about the jumpers being made on barrie? I don't think LS has ever done their jumpers on barrie.

They are the norm for shell, but there are plenty of exceptions; they are not the norm for calf. I am definitely an Alden fan but there is no disputing their wider lasts (and I have many on the Barrie) trend towards more casual wear. And they are great for casual wear. They are - simply as a matter of fact - not terribly sleek. This is particularly evident when wearing a last like EG's 888, which I am today.

Can anyone confirm the Alden/BB unlined LHS is on the Van last?

Cross post from Epaulet thread cause of the olive canvas pants, but by far my favority boots. Alden Indys in Cordovan Color 8. Great combo for a dressier look, but still pretty rugged. Way comfy, too.

yes it is
i own it in color 8
they are more snug than my whiskey lined LHS

+1

BB 9.5D

Alden (2 pairs) 9C

I just purchased an unlined BB LHS in 11D that fits well (I would like perhaps a smidge more width, but they still fit well).

If I also want a lined Alden version, would you guys suggest an 11E? I feel like there is more room for my foot to expand through the day in the unlined version and concerned that the lined version in a D-width would not allow for this (my feet tend to expand a lot in the width).
